"AAF? I though that show was cancelled in the 80's."
You are thinking of "ALF". The AAF is a new minor league to test American's appetite for football and give players a chance to audition for the NFL. Founded by Charlie Ebersol and former NFL executive Bill Polian.
Here are the teams and their head coaches.
Eastern Conference
Atlanta Legends, Kevin Coyle
Birmingham Iron, Tim Lewis
Memphis Express, Mike Singletary
Orlando Apollos, Steve Spurrier
Western Conference
Arizona (Tempe) Hotshots, Rick Neuheisel
Salt Lake Stallions, Dennis Erickson
San Antonio Commanders, Mike Riley
San Diego Fleet, Mike Martz
"I like 'Iron' but a lot of those names are stupid."
You're preaching to the choir, Kemosabe.
"Are the rules different from the NFL?"
Yes. There are no kickoffs, teams will begin possessions on their own 25 yard line. There are no PAT kicks, teams will attempt 2-point conversions after each touchdown. There are no TV time outs and fewer commercials. The play clock is 35 seconds instead of 40. Overtime will be "High School rules" each team gets a possession on their own 10 yard line, games end in tie if still tied after that. There is also a "4th and long" desperation option as a replacement for onside kicks.
"Let's pretend for the sake of argument that I give a darn, what team should I root for? I live in West Podunk, Massafornia, none of those teams are near me."
Well each team has 4 NFL tie in teams. Or you could root for a coach you like, you figure it out.
What channel is it on?
Various, Bender or I or someone will post schedules, there's 2 games on Sat and 2 on Sun. After the 10 game regular season is over the 2 teams in each conference advance to the playoffs.
Johnny Manzeil has signed with the AAF. Won’t know which team for a while.
The AAF website is streaming the current game, no sound though.
They have a replay up of today’s earlier game, with sound.
Euphemism for what?
Euphemism for any good-looking Irish gal who lives in your County.
Orlando suffers it’s first loss, they had a shot with seconds left but an offside penalty (10 men) included a 10 second runoff and the game ends.
Darn.
He will play for Memphis
On any given Sunday .... err Saturday or Sunday
The “Old Ball Coach” will use the loss
Missed Steve's lads getting their comeuppance at the hands of Zona 22 to 17, yet caught the highlights on youtube and it seem to have been a wham bang finish proving the Apollos are human and beatable.
My Commanders should lay the wood to Atlanta at 3:00 CST while the Enemas conceivably get Ironed in the evening game.
All these AAF guys are playing good football and is well worth watching.
LOL!
No LOL here, Alas-- I paid big bucks for a, XXL --
And he went on to screw the pooch... as far as I am concerned!

I love the statement by Daryl Johnston concerning why the Commanders relinquished their rights to Manzel. It was a nice way of saying “we don’t want the jackass on our team”.
Yeah, that was some ending. The stands looked more full, too. That was good to see.
San Antonio looks good. Great camera work. At aaf.com
Johnny Manziel...Jeff George with a more cavalier attitude.
How does THAAT happen?
Punt even
