Lori Loughlin has just committed career suicide.
Her alleged involvement in the seamy Varsity Blues college admissions criminal scandal has forever tarnished her reputation as the folksy face of Hallmark Channel and its vanilla-sweet TV movie franchises When Calls the Heart and Garage Sale Mystery.
Shes been a cash cow for the cable network with her top-rated movies, but shes on notice now. Dont be shocked when Hallmark Channel casts her aside, dealing a death blow to Loughlins career.
Her fall from grace sounds like the plot of a weepy Hallmark Channel movie that no one would believe, but its all too real. In her fictional, TV alter-ego universe, Loughlin bounces back, stronger than ever and ready to take on the world.
In reality? That wont happen.

Not true. A temporary glitch in her career. In fact, it will enhance it. Doing the right thing is not what matters to this crowd. Fame and fortune do.
This isn’t about donating money to a college.
She and her husband paid people to cheat the SAT for her daughter. They bribed people. And then they claimed the payment as a charity and deducted it from their taxes. What would happen to you and me, if we did those things?
That is an overreach of the justice system. 3 years for trying to keep her kids away from gang-bangers? Bishop Swan is right. If she deserves 3 years, then these celebs should be doing double digits.
From what I understand, the “Garage Sale Mysteries” are among the highest-rated programs on Hallmark, and the channel has found an audience among viewers who are tired of the junk on broadcast TV and other cable nets. Hallmark would be reluctant to throw away such a valuable franchise, however:
- Like any corporation, Hallmark doesn’t want its name associated with scandal, particularly one that may drag on for many months
- And they don’t want to put one of their movie series on hold because the star is doing time in a minimum-security federal prison
- If Loughlin and her husband can reach plea deals quickly—that doesn’t involve jail time, she may survive, though her “brand” will be damaged for years to come. I can almost guarantee Hallmark has been “encouraging” this sort of move, and her attorneys are probably offering similar advice. The arrogance and sense of entitlement among Loughlin, her husband and their daughters put them into this position. It’s going to take a lot of carefully-managed contrition (and legal maneuvering) to keep their fannies out of the Big House and salvage some semblance of their careers.
Of course, that assumes the US attorney in Boston is willing to make a deal. A high-profile case like this one certainly enhances a prosecutor’s reputation/resume and he/she may be angling to send some of these wealthy parents to jail. And Loughlin is Target #1, because she paid $500K to get her idiot daughters into the University of Spoiled Children.
Ironically, Ms. Loughlin was in Vancouver—shooting a Hallmark movie—when the indictments were announced. She’s due in court again at the end of this month. Wonder if the judge will allow her to travel and meet her professional obligations? BTW, she is also a producer of the “Garage Sale Mysteries” so her financial interest in the project goes beyond an actor’s paycheck.
One last thing: I’m assuming Loughlin and her husband have hired crisis communications specialists to help them through the crisis. She deleted all social media within a few minutes of her indictment being announced, and that is one of the first actions recommended by crisis managers. But their biggest problem will be the daughters. They appear to be the models for spoiled rich kids, and some of their social media posts (if they still exist) aren’t exactly helping mom and dad’s case.
Nonsense. Theyve just started filming the new spin off series,
Fuller Big House
And in June they are doing a series of Christmas movies,
Christmas in Cellblock 8
Orange is the New Christmas
Trading Places for the SATs
Snowfall in the Yard
And
An Extra Ciggy for Xmas
lol
“heard about this scam from some other Hollywood types”
That’s how word about the wonders of Bernie Madoff got around. There is some poetic justice there.
The point of university is to get education to get a decent job. Most people who get into college and go on to have a decent job never make what these parents paid to get their kids INTO college. You can have sex and drink beer for much cheaper. Pay for a 4 year spring break then. The kid already inherits every amount of $ every other parent dreams their child might earn with their degree.
I didn’t know that but I never read up on him much.
To me, Columbo was a staple of TV.
The are a lot of celebs who keep old friends from before the fame for that reason, and often some trusted helpers end up being best friends too by the proof of their loyalty and decency during the fame.
Ironically, Ms. Loughlin was in Vancouvershooting a Hallmark moviewhen the indictments were announced. Shes due in court again at the end of this month. Wonder if the judge will allow her to travel and meet her professional obligations?
What about her Hallmark Morals Clause????
Hey, that could be the new title of the movie...
Yes, but shes a regular on the Hallmark Channel. She has a series called The Garage Sale Murders on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
yeah, let’s wait to see whether/how Lori & family can re-invent themselves before telling the tale. Of course, first they have to try to stay out of jail.... but they will be able to create weepy “narratives” one way or another.
She can always switch over to the Lifetime Channel to play the hard-working career mom stuck in the bad marriage who tracks down and kills the guy who raped her in college.
She had better come out against Trump soon or she will be finished!
Oh, I get all that. But I have no respect for actors and frankly expect them to behave this way. But the nature of these crimes just aren't sexy enough for their fans to be outraged.
Hallmark looks to suffer the most from this if they lose a high value franchise like Garage Sale Mysteries. Loughlin is probably set for life at age 50 and won't do badly (aside from possibly going to the slammer).
OH MY GOD! You mean that they are actors and not the people they pretend to be?
Anyone that believes this hasn't been going on forever by people with money on both side of the political spectrum and all professions is deluding themselves. The only thing that happened is people on the school end got greedy, really greedy, and that caused the whole thing to come out.........that and and stupid children bragging about how mommy and daddy bought their way into a prestigious school.
In 2013 George Cluney had 14 of his best friends to dinner. These were people who had helped and supported him in the years before he made the big time. He gave each of them a bag containing $1,000,000.
For these gifts, he paid a tax bill of about $3.5 million.
Nice way to say “Thank you” to your friends.
That’s true. The Hollywood elite get away with so much.
I like Hallmark, but I don’t subscribe, so I never heard of the Garage Sale Mysteries. If anything, Hallmark probably got free advertising out of this story. lol
The pretentious shell of celebrity goes beyond this stupid school scandal. Just today, movie tough guy Sammy Jackson was running his mouth about Trump and McConnell. Alyssa Milano constantly jabbers about matters far beyond her capacity. Streisand, De Niro, Baldwin, Madonna, Griffin, Smollet, ... the list of high-profile blabbermouths who believe their own PR is endless.
