Here is my solution: Let's start returning their calls with some sort of nonsense.

I called back the "warranty" punks and let the line sit without entering their prompt:

"Press 1 if you want to be removed from our calling list"

"Press 2 and you will be connect to an agent"

I let it sit there to chew up their valuable time on a line not being used to generate revenue.

When they answered I instantly said "I don't want to date you" and that gal who answered responded "I don't want to date you either. I'm married!"

To which I replied "But, I'm lonely. Maybe we can just talk".

She hung up.

So I called back and let the line sit there until they answered again.

Immediately they went into their pitch and I countered with "Hey, can get double Cheese on my pizza"

This agent responded "Sir, we sell auto warranties. Why would you call us for a pizza? Do you have the right Number?"

"Well, yeah. I have the right number. You called me selling pizzas and I ordered one but, forgot to ask for double cheese.

Can you do that?" Was my response

"No, sir we sell auto warranties. How did you get our number? " She inquired.

"Like I said, you called me and I returned your call. I really like double cheese on my pizza." I responded

They hung up.

I know it's a hassle but, we can make it very expensive for these A-holes to call us.

Just return the call and if they answer go into some sort of nonsense.

This will tie up their line. Which is one less phone call they can take and they only have so many ports on their phone system so it may even block a call coming after you.

It also ties up an agent, costing them productivity and wages.

Let's make it expensive for them call.

Heck, I'm even going to start taking their calls and pulling things like this.

I even speak 5 languages and will say something stupid like :

"No salgo con hombres e mujeres, penejo..."

Let's beat these jerks back.

Talk nonsense to them

Never answer the phone unless you know who it is. Far simpler.

I can do a pretty good imitation of an Indian guy from Bangalore. It always throws them off script when I answer like that.

Sometimes it’s fun to just ask “Do you know where you’re going to go when you die? Do you know Jesus?”

The best way to get rid of a telemarketer is to hang up on him. You’ll be doing the both of you a favor.

I have an AT&T desk phone. One of the features that really sold me on it was that you can block 1,000 numbers. When I get a call like that, I just push "Block Call" and that's that.

Gosh, I have even gotten occasional calls from a major hotel chain where I once stayed like 10 years ago. Pathetic. I feel everyone's pain with these interrupting bothersome calls. Whatever happened to that government joke, "Do Not Call" list?

If it a live call I say the following:

This is Detective Mad from the Sheriff’s office. Can you come down and identify the body?

Always results in a hang up.

I don’t get that many of these types of calls, and what I do is tell them they have won a lesson in customer service. I proceed to tell how they should be making an outbound phone call. They hang up, and this works every time LOL

I am surprised you can actually redial and call these people back. If they get enough annoyance calls they will eventually get wise and get it changed so you can’t reach them.

I always press 1 to speak to an agent and then put the phone next to the radio and let them listen to rush or Hannity.

I do somewhat the same when I have time. I get a call everyday to lower my credit card rates to zero. I have tried hitting the # which is they say their do not call again choice.

When they pick up I act very interested. They want my current card # (yeah right) .Wait I have to get the card hold on (3 minutes). OK. They ask for the last four digits. Hold ON I have to get my glasses (another 3 minutes). Then I tell them not interested.

You are giving them more credit than they deserve. They didn’t call you about the car warranty because of a Google search. When they said “you requested it”, they were simply lying. I agree with the poster who suggested not answering unless you know who is calling. If they don’t leave a voice mail, block them.

Get a Samsung 8+ it comes with a blocking feature, works well.

If I do happen to answer an unknown call that is trying to sell something, real simple.....

I tell them we don’t pay our bills.

That is the fastest way to get off the call list and it gets passed around.

I also created a fake person to use when I shop or buy from vendors that sell names to spammers. To get a credit agency to start a file on the fake person, donate money in that fake person’s name to a political party or pac. Only real people would do that right? No names get sold faster than that.

You know you can install a custom host file, you need a file manager installed then with the host file you can block and silence a lot of that crap.

Don't use the voice siri for searches, do a little research and block the tattle tale apps.

Hope that helps.

Anytime someone sends you junk mail with one of those ‘pre-paid postage’ envelopes don’t just trash it, put it to good use.

Since you didn’t ask to be sent the crap they sent you, stuff their prepaid postage envelope with stuff you don’t want...

junk mail of all kinds, (remove the addresses), old expired coupons, all the junk you can stuff in it.

Whatever it weighs they will be stuck with paying the postage, so STUFF that puppy full!

When they get stuck paying $5 for junk mail and expired coupons you can bet your @$$ they won’t be mailing you anything else!

Use the phone system to your advantage.

Step 1 - down load the audio/tone for not in service tone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NI_wyiY4vyk)

Step 2 - shorten the tone to just the tone and not the message

Step 3 - On your voice mail recording, start the recording, play the tone and wait one or two seconds, then proceed with your normal greeting.

Step 4 - Let all calls ESPECIALLY unrecognized calls, go to voice mail/messaging

Why this works. The tone is a standard telephone tone that tells auto dailers that the line is not in servcie. The vast majority of auto dialers will then take the line out of their list and not call it again.

Also helps to list your phone with the do not call registry. After about a week, you should see a significant drop in call attempts.
