I love Bosch too——but this is about Private detectives.
.
In the movies: Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Margaret Rutherford as MISS MARPLE.
Books: Sherlock Holmes, all of Dorothy Sayers, Margery Allingham, Agatha Christi, and Josephine Tey books.
I'm also a fan of Hercule Poirot (David Suchet), and Miss Marple (Joan Hickson). Oh, and of course, Father Brown. My favorite episodes are when John Light plays Flambeau, the coldly charming art thief. He's got a certain odd appeal.
Frank Cannon of course.

Magnum and Rockford.
Oh, I forgot about Monk! He was adorable.
Jim Rockford.
My favorite detective show on TV was “The Rockford Files” My favorite detective is “Sherlock Holmes”. My favorite TV detective was “Paul Drake”.
Honorable mention, “Magnum”, “Boston Blackie”, “Phillip Marlowe”, and “Jake Gittes”.
Favorite cop detective, “Lt. Tragg”.
You beat me to it with Cannon. He was the master of opening his car door on a fleeing suspect and hitting him with a karate chop.
Marcus Didius Falco, Roman gumshoe during the reign of Vespasian, from the Falco mystery series by Lindsey Davis.
Amazing what an actor Bruce Willis was at 5 yo in Moonlighting! Bogart or Powers Boothe as Marlowe.
I did like Moonlighting in the 80’s.
Off to other things ... ;-)
Trevor McGee by John MacDonald
Point taken. How about Robert Crais novels about Elvis Cole and Joe Pike.
What? No Travis McGee and Meyer? The Busted Flush?
I like to watch Cannon’s one punch knockouts. Can’t remember him even getting a bruise.
Actually, Dashiell Hammett’s Nick Charles as the Thin Man fits all three categories. I like from older movies Sam Spade, Philip Marlowe, Boston Blackie, Harper. TV detectives, Columbo, Harry ‘O’, peter Gunn. And books of course Arthur Conan Doyle, Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler.
Sorry for being so picky——I love Crais but I think Michael Connelly is one of the best-———I loved the Mickey Haller books too.
