Musher Nicolas Petit lost a huge lead in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race on Monday when his dog team refused to keep going after he yelled at one of the animals.
A dog named Joey had been fighting with another dog on the team and jumped it during a break on the way to the Bering Sea checkpoint of Koyuk.
"I yelled at Joey, and everybody heard the yelling, and that doesn't happen,'' Petit told the Iditarod Insider website. "And then they wouldn't go anymore. Anywhere. So we camped here.''

The Madonna Memorial Sled Dog Race?....................
Can't blame them, nobody likes being yelled at, they need a union.
Joey was just a little upset. His scenery never changed during the race.
Joey is being renamed to “snowflake”.
This is why Bob Knight never won the Iditarod.
Dogs and horses are made to relate to people. They’re smart enough to have highs and lows in those relationships.
Do like I do when my dogs get uppity.
I threaten to replace them with a three-legged cat with one ear and half a tail.
Time to bring this out again:
ELAINE: So who’s playing Elaine?
JERRY: Oh, don’t worry about it. Very talented, very takented young actress.
ELAINE: Really?
JERRY: Yes.
ELAINE: Who is it?
JERRY: She’s an eskimo, actually.
ELAINE: Oh, my God (not in the mood to be kidding)
JERRY: She came down from Juno by sleigh, she was in the Iditarod. Got to the finish line, just kept going. She’s got the dogs with her in the hotel room.
Would Juneau, there are typeaus in that dialogue.
I am guessing he did not train his team but instead paid some one to train them then stepped into be the musher...if he had trained the team this would of not happened because the dogs would of seen him as the one in charge instead the Musher was not in charge the dog he disciplined was seen to be in charge as far as all the other dogs were concerned so when he disciplined the lead dog he had a revolt by all the other dogs.
I take my two dogs to the dog park all the Time. there are lots of huskies that show up at the park. When ever a husky comes in there are two things going through there heads....who is in charge and if the other dog is not dominant can I be in charge.
I understand one of the dogs was a cajun
named Fideaux.
He should have let the dogfight play itself out. Could be that one of the dogs was jockeying for a leadership position - such as that epic battle between Spitz and that newcomer named Buck.
I’d stop, too. It’s too cold and they’re running on bare feet.
Dat cold wind do bleaux so hard, dem dog feet freeze.
The wear booties while running-—I think.
