Captain Marvel is going higher, further, faster at the box office. The Marvel film easily soared past its competition for the biggest opening weekend of 2019 and the first title of the year to open to more than $100 million. It won the box office with an estimated opening total of $153 million in ticket sales at 4,310 theaters in the U.S. and Canada from Friday through Sunday. It marks the seventh biggest opening for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the second-biggest debut of a new Marvel character on the big-screen, behind only last year’s record-breaking Black Panther.
Holdovers How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral take second and third place respectively. In its third week at the box office, the final film in the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy continues to hover near the top of the box office, taking in an estimated $14.7 million across 4,042 theaters. A Madea Family Funeral also marks the end of an era as Tyler Perry’s final Madea film, and it firmly takes third place in its second week with an estimated $12 million across 2,442 theaters.

What on earth does anyone who has seen a Marvel movie think they’re gonna see here that’s new?
Yeah. That’s what I have heard from others: it’s about 3 out of 5 stars. A little lazy in the writing, a bit too much (but not obnoxiously so) feminist, and an OK diversion. Given it is part of the MCU, it will make a boat load of money. Heck, I may even go see it. Marvel could have done better, but this is not a Star Wars level epic fail. Won’t hurt the franchise.
Unlike the Mary Sue in Star Wars, Captain Marvel’s power is justified by here backstory (alien) and cannon. Just saying...
With sites like Fandango should be easy enough to check, if a cinema does reserved seats. Some enterprising journo can buy tickets to a few close to sold out showings and see if there are real butts in the seats.
It’s instructive that the left - which always mocks the alleged intellectual inferiority of conservatives - is now cranking out an endless series of movies based on comic books.
Of course they like women who act like men: They then don’t have any real responsibility to them. They don’t have to support them in any way or defend them. The women are “strong” and fully autonomous. Guess what’s the only thing the women actually need them for...?
If this one is a fantasy projection for women there are plenty of movies that are fantasy projections for men, and I'd wager that those movies are far more popular with men than this one is with women.
If you want to psychoanalyze one group, the diagnosis for the other won't be very different.

I think the backlash gets delayed, because Endgame is a must see. The reviews from those I respect and have similar taste confirm MCU is moving to wokeness. They could salvage or savage Endgame. Either way it likely is the end of an era.

I suspect the poster meant inflating women’s physical strength, speed, and agility up to any beyond that of men to further the goals of the Left in asserting that women can do anything physically that a man can.
I’m fully preparing for Endgame to equal the Last Jedi. I think I may end up going with Thanos was right and Infinity War was the end. I think that way with Force Awakens. Rey was of some great Jedi lineage and the destruction of the Star Killer was end of the First Order. No TLJ to muck it up.
