Captain Marvel is going higher, further, faster at the box office. The Marvel film easily soared past its competition for the biggest opening weekend of 2019 and the first title of the year to open to more than $100 million. It won the box office with an estimated opening total of $153 million in ticket sales at 4,310 theaters in the U.S. and Canada from Friday through Sunday. It marks the seventh biggest opening for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the second-biggest debut of a new Marvel character on the big-screen, behind only last years record-breaking Black Panther.
Holdovers How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Tyler Perrys A Madea Family Funeral take second and third place respectively. In its third week at the box office, the final film in the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy continues to hover near the top of the box office, taking in an estimated $14.7 million across 4,042 theaters. A Madea Family Funeral also marks the end of an era as Tyler Perrys final Madea film, and it firmly takes third place in its second week with an estimated $12 million across 2,442 theaters.

Surely you know what I mean by doing masculine things?
Is this all fake - a money laundering scheme?
They have two more this year. Endgame will be the big one. Ill see it on TV. Ill never watch this or Woker-Man. The previous Spider-Man was the most SJW Marvel movie until now. Oh, and these will all be left behind when Episode IX hits. Disney isnt hurting by going full Left.
Well said.
So you pay to see this movie in the theater?
How many people do you know that do that?
I’m thinking it is not real.
There is a fairly new 8 plex theater (built maybe 12 yrs ago) in our little burg. I drive past it basically anywhere I need to go. I’m always amazed how many cars are in the parking lot.
What do you think is not real? The dollar figure?
Since the last indoor movie I went to was twenty years ago, I have no idea how they’re doing now.
Are box office numbers wildly inflated? Wouldn’t surprise me, but it would apply to all movies, I imagine, so relative box office draw would be accurate.
is What all fake. The box office numbers?
No. If they overstate the numbers they still have to pay people their percentages based on the numbers they claim, so it would be very expensive to do that.
People like superhero movies. I am not one of those people, but it’s clear enough that people like them. There are as many girls as boys, but a lot fewer female superheroes, so it makes perfect sense this would do well. The Black Panther success was similar. The novelty of a black superhero meant there was interest in different groups than normal.
I am not personally threatened by other peoples’ movie choices, other than maybe if “Triumph of the Will” were a box office sensation. Also was disgusted by “Reds”. But this is not a big deal.
The original Captain Marvel not this travesty. People who made this ‘film’ must be strait out of “Idiocracy” ...
Siskel and Ebert said it best years ago when they pointed out that the early film makers made films of great literature because that is what they had been raised on.
Today’s film makers were raised on comic books.
These arent the numbers that should be looked at. Going to a movie today can cost as much as $12 per ticket. The real number is how many people went to see the movie.
Agreed.
Same Morons who turned Thor into a woman, and then were surprised it flopped.
Complete Idiots.
Yes, of course.
The OP asked what the box office receipts were...and I posted from Wiki.
You could say that about a lot of moviegoers whatever their sex or politics.
Why were superheroes invented and why do they have so many fans?
A lot. Every showing all weekend has been booked solid at the theater that sells assigned seating here. This thing was never going to outright flop, it was always going to sell, but will it have legs and sell well a few weeks from now? My guess is it will underperform Disneys internals.
But it will still make boatloads of money
I agree with you but 21st century males like women who act like men. I noticed it 20 years ago in video games. It infects everything now.
There were not many good films released in this decade.
At least from Hollywood, that is.
