Is There A Doctor In The House? Kidney Stone!
3/10/2019 | ValkRider

Early Friday morning my wife was in severe pain on her left side. Went to the walk-in clinic and they said she needed to go to the Emergency Room. We did. As soon as the Doc seen her he said, he believed the cause is a kidney stone. Took X-Ray and sure nuff it was 1 stone about 2mm in size. They gave her an IV, a pain shot, and a few other shots. We were there for about 3.5 hours. When discharged they gave her a script for 4 prescriptions. The Doc told her the stone was about to pass. He said she will most likely feel pain when she does pass the stone and that is normal. They gave her a pee trap with a screen filter so she could see the stone once passed. It's now Sunday, 2 days later, and still has not passed the stone.

She isn't experiencing any pain. In fact, she's feeling pretty good. Maybe not 100%, but is doing well. She's drinking lots of water and one of the meds prescribed is to make her pee more often. And she is peeing more often than usual.

Can anyone here speculate if we should be concerned about not passing the kidney stone by now?

Not stones, so far, just sludge. Been having bouts of *discomfort* (understatement) for over 10 years, off and on and only a very few in the past couple of years.

I keep it on hand mostly for DH’s gout. Getting a lot of good comments in gout forums, which is where I first heard about it.

I suggest you investigate:

Alkalanization, e.g., with Apple Cider Vinegar.

Decalcification, e.g., with Chanca Piedra [Stone Breaker].

Mineralization, e.g., with Magnesium, Boron, and Silicon (Silica).

Yes sir, best advice. One of my daughters is a chronic stone maker. Real lemonade or 100% cranberry juice are best, but anything very high in citric acid will melt them and keep them from forming.

I got the idea about Tang from a friend’s father.

His brother repaired appliances and used the stuff to clean garbage disposals.

Makes you wonder if you should be drinking something that can be used in place of Draino. lol

But the stomach produces hydrochloric acid so I guess it can’t be any worse... :)

I know about stomach acid only too well.

Prilosec is up there with air, watet, and food.

You probably have the same scar tissue build up I do. Every year that goes by the chunks of food get cut smaller and smaller. Had them hang up on the way down too many times and scare me. lol

How much would you say you should take? Of the sodium bicarbonate supplements?

[[That will lower your uric acid level which should help with the stones. Those are tricky devils. They show up on CT but not on plain xrays.]]

Yup- I have a 13mm stone that they thought was calcium, went in to have it smashed with sound waves, but they couldn’t see it on the Xray- so they couldn’t do the procedure- They saw it on CT scan, but when I saw they couldn’t see it on X-Ray- my head just dropped- I knew they weren’t gonna be able to do it- uggh- now they want me to take sodium bicarbonate, but i heard it could take 3-4 months- Uggh x 2- I just went 16 days in bad pain because stone kept trying to leave kidney- it couldn’t of course- now I’m looking at the stone trying to leave for 3 or so months?

I do take allopurinol- plus potassium chloride i think it is for the calcium stones- though I’ve read that stuff doesn’t work so well-

[[It is said that pain is God’s way of telling you that you’re still alive. You are VERY alive some days.]]

LOL- I always say the good thing about pain is that it eventually stops- usually

[[If you haven’t already done so, start a low oxalate diet]]

The problem with having 2 kinds of stones is that ya gotta give up so much that there’s nothing left to eat worth eating really- pasta maybe- rice, but mostly veggies- blech- I was a heavy cola drinker, but have cut that out in favor of orange soda now- no tea now, or coffee- cutting back on sugar- not entirely though- can’t eat meat I guess- but I’m not gonna quit entirely- just moderate it-

I guess sodium bicarbonate can cause calcium stones too? I was just real low on vitamin D (level was 6- supposed to be 35 or so) so had to take D- come to find out, D can cause stones too lol- Which i had 3 while on it- but i think levels must be back up so I’ll quit the D for now-

Well at least breathing doesn’t cause stones... that i know of lol

[[The episode did reset my personal “pain value” of 10 to what a 10 really is....]]

Yup- me too- My scale was developed when i experienced my first stone that wouldn’t pass well- my new numbers were 8 = pain enough to nearly vomit, 9 = almost blacking out pain, with vomiting, 10 = blacking out pain-

I gotta ask my doc that too- He told me to start with 2 pills twice a day, but never told me the amount lol- and i didn’t think to ask- gotta meet with him next week- I do know we shouldn’t take too much- my doc told me the sodium bicarbonate only works on uric acid stones-

you should be alright then- I think they caution against taking it for people with large gall stones because it can shrink them enough that they try to leave the gall bladder and cause major problems when they do- it can throw off liver function tests too- you should probably have your liver function tests done to see if any levels are off- probably not- but it’s worth a check- the 3 important tests are, alkaline phosphatase, ALT and AST- but with just sludge, you are likely fine- I think it’s just the stones that throw off liver tests-

Man, you are REALLY good at making kidney stones. That is a big uric acid stone. If you were able to partially dissolve it with sodium bicarb it might get small enough to drop into your ureter and then it might be accessible to treating it with a laser device that gets snaked up the ureter to the blockage. Some choice, huh?

Good luck!

yeah- doc doesn’t want to do laser stating the tube might not be able to bend to where the stone is or something- will have to wait till it gets stuck, like you say- where it can be reached- I’m just wondering how many days of blocked ureter pain i have to endure before he will book the procedure-

..Kidney specialist told my mother about 1200 mg. a couple of times per day for her disease. But for kidney function and stone prevention, I take about the equivalent of 650 per day, which is like 1 pill. Or just right out of the Arm and Hammer box...
