Californians voted for year-round daylight saving. Could this be our last spring forward?

Many Californians are gearing up to spring their clocks forward for daylight saving time this Sunday but a ballot measure passed in November could make this time switch the state’s last.

Proposition 7, approved by 60 percent of voters in November and sponsored by Assemblyman Kansen Chu, D- San Jose, repealed the 1949 initiative that started daylight saving time in California. The proposition also allows for state Legislature to adjust the state’s daylight saving time, whether it be by a couple days or all year.

“If signed by the governor, the bill will bring California closer to abolishing the outdated practice of switching our clocks in the fall and spring,” Chu told The Sacramento Bee in June.

But the change isn’t permanent yet. Two things are required before Californians can do away with daylight saving time altogether: a bill to pass the state Legislature and to obtain federal authorization through a majority vote in Congress, according to Annie Pham, a member of Chu’s staff.

Actually, the time will be exactly the same, since Arizona’s Mountain Standard Time will be the same as California’s Pacific Daylight Time.

Wait till the kids get injured going to school in the early AM. We’d be better off with standard time.

“Since they don’t get up till noon, what difference does it make? ;)”

The average start time for office work in SF and Silicon Valley is 0700. About 1/2 arrive by 0600.

I would like to see year-round standard time. I hate having to get up in what seems like the middle of the night.

“The sun came up at 8:45...”

That will certainly be the case in the northern states in the winter.

Even here is Sacramento in Dec and Jan it doesn’t start to show light until 0700. Sunrise at nearly 0800.

Permanent DST will make those times 0800 and 0900 respectively.

Friggin’ retarded.

Wow. I knew a few who came in at that time but most professionals I worked with rolled in between 8 and 9. The other end of the day was a different story with a lot of us still in the office at 7pm.

Personally I often came in later after spending a good chunk of my morning worked remotely on my computer. All that mattered was that I was in attendance for important meetings. Only operations, which ran 24/7 scheduled meetings before 9AM. The most productive work was done after 5PM when the formal meetings were all over.

Commiefornia needs to let each Commiefornian select his/her/its own time zone just like selecting his/her/its own gender status.

Year round DST was tried back in the 1970s when Milhous was president.
The sun came up at 8:45...

And that generated a lot of dissent, especially after a school bus ran over several children that the driver didn't see because of the early morning darkness.

Hey, lumping everyone who lives in CA and who can’t leave immediately and run like hell out of this insane asylum infested with amoral, corrupt, bottom-feeding, Marxist human waste elected via voter fraud is not fair! The same sickness has invaded New York, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Virginia, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Vermont, Connecticut, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and the list goes on. Don’t think you’re safe! Behold the Marxist RATs plan to destroy the USA in motion.

Beware these human debris are brainwashing America’s children with Marxist Liberal propaganda in the government public schools. Unless your children are home schooled, your state will be infested before long with these human waste. In my opinion, this will not end well.

I’d rather just straight time. LIke it being close to noon when the sun is highest.

But, I’d accept DST all the time, even though like most “progressive” ideas - makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Yes, the number of kids injured enroute to school because of winter darkness north of the Cali-Oregon border is appalling.

Here are a couple of hints: #1 Very few kids even walk to school anymore, because the church of perpetual panic (aka the press) has got parents paranoid about children’s safety even though we live in a far safer time than when we grew up, and: #2 the accident rate for kids in the north varies insignificantly from that rate south of the imaginary line I described earlier.

Your argument has ZERO basis in fact. The reason that humans are so successful is because we adapt quickly. Proof of that is the accident rate after each time change: it spikes for a day or two, then returns to its “normal” pattern.

I detest DST, and concur that the clocks should be left alone, since the original idea was a JOKE Benjamin Franklin made at the expense of the French.

The bigger joke is that politicians actually BELIEVED him!

Normal standardized time or an hour advanced, I don’t care, just make a decision and leave it the devil alone!

AOC said the moon is more important and valuable than the Sun because the Sun only shines in the daytime when it’s light anyway but the Moon shines at night when you really need it.

OK, she didn’t really say that, it’s just an old, old joke and I am having fun with it but she really has said things just as dumb or even worse.
