Roy Moore 'seriously considering' another Senate bid after 2017 failure

Roy Moore said he is "seriously considering" a 2020 rematch against the current incumbent Alabama senator. The fiery and controversial candidate, who became the first Republican to lose a U.S. Senate race in Alabama in 21 years for his defeat by now-Sen. Doug Jones, a Democrat, says that he is open to the idea of running for the GOP's nomination again. “I’m seriously considering it. I think that was stolen,” Moore said of the race during a Friday interview.

I’m guessing you didn’t have a problem with the corrupt swamp creature named Luther Strange.

President Trump didn't.

If Roy Moore had never run in the first place, Mo Brooks probably would have won the GOP primary in Alabama ... and would be a U.S. Senator from Alabama right now.

I’ll take a clown show over the Marquess of Queensberry people conservatives keeping thinking should be in office.

You're forgetting that this was a U.S. Senate seat that had been held for years by the GOP ... in a state where the Democratic Party doesn't even contest presidential elections.

Moore wasn't just a "clown show." Unlike Donald Trump, he was a thoroughly inept political candidate as well.

A renegade like this can destroy the GOP brand far beyond Alabama.

Ha ha ha ha ha. The GOP “brand” is worthless outside of Mitt Romney’s country club. They are the “not Democrat party”. That is all. Nobody but a few hobbyists have a favorable impression of the GOP. The idea Senator Moore could further tarnish the GOP is hilarious.

This time around, however, the National Republican Senatorial Committee isn’t keen
on standing by a Moore candidacy, pledging to do everything in its power to block
his ascension to the GOP nomination.

“The NRSC’s official stance is ABRM: anyone but Roy Moore,” said Kevin McLaughlin,
the committee’s executive director. “The only thing Doug Jones and I agree on is that
his only prayer for electoral success in 2020 is a rematch with Roy Moore.”

Maybe he can go watch another Army/Navy football game like he did the weekend
before the election which he lost.

I agree with you ... but are you suggesting that the rest of this country would be better off if Utah had two Democratic senators?

This is not an anti-Moore rant, mind you. I’m probably one of the few people here on FR who would have voted for him in the general election even if every accusation against him turned out to be true.

And that is false. There was only one accusation against Moore and that was conflated with other consensual events. Never mind the now reported Democrat dirty tricks on facebook, GOP campaigning against its own nominee, etc.

Personally, I wonder if Roy Moore has been an establishment GOP tool for years. His only purpose in running in 2017 was to keep Mo Brooks from beating Luther Strange in the primary.

He fills the exact same role in Alabama that Joe Arpaio fills in Arizona.

The core of the Moore-vote revolves around hardcore Baptist members who believe that Moore is the salt of the Earth. Beyond that, probably 60-percent of GOP regular voters who just can’t stand the guy. They hated Luther Strange even more.

There’s some talk-radio station in Birmingham who tried to hype Moore way early and then went anti-Moore as the race finally came up.

I’ll take your word on everything you typed.

But, right now the Senate would have one more Republican in it, instead of one more Democrat. Moore may not have been well liked, but I don’t see him cozying up to Schumer and the Left. He would have only been there for a few years and then primaried by another Republican and sent packing. And the way he runs his mouth that scenario was probably a ‘no brainer’. But it didn’t go that way and for that, the 650,000 Alabaman’s that stayed home and allowed Jones to take the seat can, suck it.

But then again, they had a chance to get Mo Brooks and they didn’t, so they can doubly, suck it.

OK -- let's go beyond that. I'm saying I would have voted for Roy Moore even if there was irrefutable evidence that he was a rapist.

If he wasn't a rapist, I'd vote for him on principle.

If he WAS a rapist, I'd vote for him because the U.S. Senate would be the perfect place for a guy like that.

I would too. That’s why we need a good one that can beat Doug Jones.

I’ve seen more than enough Roy Moore. I told people early on last time that he was just going to mess it up. Sure enough ....

I wan’t in love with him either, but he would have been a better choice and an actual Senator.

True or not. Alabama voters believed the lies the media told.
And that is what matters.
Another run won’t change that.
He was unfairly slimed.
But slimed non the less.
Slimed beyond recovery.

Just say no Judge,

I’m in Mississippi and have two very good friends from Montgomery AL that visit regularly. They’re as conservative as they come and even they despise Roy Moore. I think many here underestimate how disliked that clown is by rank and file conservatives in Alabama. If you’re a republican running for Senate in AL and you can’t beat Doug Jones then you’re the problem, not the voters.

“He’s been burning bridges with the GOP for years ... and then has the nerve to complain when they don’t stand up for him.”

I’m not a big fan of Roy Moore and he certainly didn’t do much to help himself... but “eff” the GOP. We all ought to be burning at lot more than bridges with them because they’re a pack of rotten backstabbing cowards. Most of the time they don’t stand up for the president either, and they had to be harangued into timidly supporting Kavanaugh. What s*** show that was, even at the last minute we were still weren’t certain they’d be able to reign in enough potential defectors. The difference between Moore and Kavanaugh (aside from the likelihood that Moore dated legal age teenagers, which I, though I may be in the minority, I personally couldn’t care less about) is that Kavanaugh was willing to fight it tooth and nail. Moore huffed and puffed a couple times and then slinked off into some dark corner. We need conservatives who will stick it to the GOP, and keep sticking it to them until they either grow a spine or get the heck out of the way and let somebody else take up the conservative mantle.

I would not be a good political candidate.
And neither was Moore.

He will only divide Alabama GOP voters,
just as he has divided opinions here on FR.

I’ll probably get scorched, but I lived down there for quite a few years, and he was awful. Alabama doesn’t need him. He’s not helpful. We need that seat back, and there are other people to run, who can actually win the seat and deliver what folks want. Not him. He needs to go away. This is not about the GOP. This is about normal people, and they are sick of him, and sick of hearing about him.
