Agreed.
The decibel level for exhaust on vehicles
in California is 95. A cop has no way to
measure this. I’m guessing if one is
issued a ‘noise’ ticket, it’s up to the
owner to have it tested to prove in
court, it meets the threshold.
The following emit sound at just 5
decibels higher;

Jet take-off (at 305 meters), use of outboard motor, power lawn mower, motorcycle, farm tractor, jackhammer, garbage truck. Boeing 707 or DC-8 aircraft at one nautical mile (6080 ft) before landing (106 dB); jet flyover at 1000 feet (103 dB); Bell J-2A helicopter at 100 ft (100 dB).

Do their garbage trucks get a pass?

Government vehicle. Likely an exception. City can’t make any money ticketing its own vehicles.

“Modified Exhaust $1000 EACH stop.”

HD’s will still be ignored.

You can evaluate the economic desperation of a given area by both the cost of, and ease with which traffic tickets are handed out.

I recently watched a video about California, which claimed the CHP issued 190% more traffic tickets in 2018 than they did in the previous year.

Must use windshield wipers and headlights at the same time.

A real PIA when you have your wipers on intermittent.
On off, on off. :-)

Uninsured car in an accident $796

Unless you're an illegal, or "poor", then you get a free pass (based on what I've seen illegals tend to drive without insurance)

Tinted windows $178

Oh, NO! What will the Hollywood left DO!!??

Modified Exhaust $1000 EACH stop

So much for Brian Wilson's / Beach Boys car songs. And what do they mean by "Modified Exhaust"? If I buy a new muffler at Auto Zone, is that modified? I'm sure they have a legal definition, but I'm also sure it's at the discretion of the ticketing officer, which means drop your drawers and empty your wallet.

California is Hot Rod Heaven, for goodness sake!

How will someone’s bitchin’ ‘32 Ford street rod make the cut?

Or is there some sort of exemption for these?

Kalifornica should take lessons from Finland, where traffic fines are determined by one's income. That gives "tax the rich" a whole new meaning.

Obviously the illegals will be exempt because any of these would be a hardship on nearly all of them.....

“Hear, hear! The epitome of noise pollution. I hate those stupid Harley’s. Someone must have lobbied years ago to give those pieces of crap a pass.”

It’s not just the HD crowd, but they’re the main offenders. I ride a BMW tourer and Ducati sport bike. Both have aftermarket exhaust. The BMW boxer motor is an icon of dependability and longevity, but it sounds about as sexy as an air compressor. The Duc, on the other hand, has a wonderful syncopated basso profundo sound. It has two carbon fiber canister mufflers and an exhaust header that allows both cylinders to use both mufflers. It’s louder than stock, but not offensive. I get a lot of smiles when I ride by rather than frowns and people covering their kids ears.

Anyone know if riding a motorcycle with earbuds under your helmet listening to music is illegal in California? Thanks.

I almost got stopped for tinted front windows last time we drove to the Bay Area. Then they saw our out of state plates and went away.
