Foster Brooks was an incredible talent.
Ended up doing research on some guys I saw on the roasts ad getting to like their other stuff.
Johnny Carson was a comedian, a showman and a gentleman.
I lost more sleep staying up for his monologue... There was no DVR...
I loved the show too. But after coming across this 1977 episode, now have a very different view of him...

November 22, 1970 -- During a fund-raising tour for GI deserters, Vietnam Veterans Against the War and the Black Panthers, Jane Fonda is quoted in the Detroit Free Press as telling a University of Michigan audience:
"I would think that if you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would someday become communist," and "The peace proposal of the Viet Cong is the only honorable, just, possible way to achieve peace in Vietnam."
January, 1971: Jane Fonda raises funds for the Winter Soldier Investigation through a series of benefit concerts. Participants include Fonda, Dick Gregory, Donald Sutherland, Graham Nash, David Crosby and Phil Ochs. Fonda is named Honorary National Coordinator of the event.
February 16, 1971: Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland form "FTA" (F*** The Army), an anti-war, anti-American road show that tours near Army bases in order to undermine troop morale. Skits and songs portray American defeats, soldiers refusing to fight, and the murder of officers by their troops. FTA cast members mingle with soldiers after the shows, encouraging them to desert or to sabotage the Army.
Hanoi Jane was in 1970.
The Tonight show thing was in 1977.
It’s hard to remember exactly, but by 1977, with evidence mounting that the US wasn’t willing to do what was necessary to defeat the North Vietnamese, weren’t most Americans wanting to declare victory and come home? So was Carson reflective of society in 1977?
By 1977, the Vietnam War was over for two years.
No Americans there except the ones McCain abandoned.

Fonda was a communist revolutionary. Read the quotes I posted above. She wanted the communist North to defeat us. She and her filthy ilk wanted us out of Vietnam was so that the North could more easily take over the country. She didn’t care about our soldiers dying. The commie left detested the troops. They spat on them when they returned.

I was living out of the country then and not paying that much attention.
What Carson said might be irritating, but given
the times and mood of the country, I would not
alter my opinion of him because of it.

During the actual conversation with Fonda, he compared her to the Founding Fathers, as if her (pro-Vietcong, pro-Communist, anti-US, anti-Capitalist) cause were a noble one.
Wow! I never saw that side of Carson. I wish I hadn’t, it’s too bad that these hollywood creatures can be such great actors and miserable human beings.
And how many “conservatives” avoid Hollywood and pro-sports today?
