Wiped out: America's love of luxury toilet paper is destroying Canadian forests
The Guardian UK ^ | 01 Mar 2019 | Sam Wolfson

Posted on 03/02/2019 6:03:07 PM PST by blueplum

We’re all becoming more aware about the damage single-use plastics and fast fashion has on the environment. Yet there is one product we all throw away every single day that, so far, has not been a major part of conversations about sustainability: toilet paper.

But America’s heavy use of toilet paper – particularly the pillowy soft kind – is worsening climate change and taking “a dramatic and irreversible toll” on forests, especially the Canadian boreal forest...

Their propaganda works on all the ignorant fools who can’t think critically.

I know an old woman who thinks we’re going to run out of room to bury people. I’m serious.

That is correct. Trees store carbon. When they die they release it. When they are left to burn they release it. Then, the ground keeps releasing it until the area is regenerated.

I had to, as well as all loggers in the N Central USA have to have their certification in SFI and BMPs to log and hold contracts with the Forest Products manufacturing corporations.

You dont have the certification? Then no contract, AND they can try to prevent you from selling to anyone who doesnt honor that program.

Well, they do have those air dryers in most public restrooms. You could get one installed at home.

Whoops the Sears catalog is something of the past. On another note, Georgia Pacific, Champion, and International Paper the three largest land owners in America have no problem supplying Kimberly Clark or Scott with pulp wood for tissue or toilet paper. In fact they grow specially developed trees and replant the harvested areas.

Wood is the ultimate renewable resource AND Canada has more than enough to export to us.

Hey, there’s always sticks, rocks, or
leaves. A country boy can survive.
Of course, you may have to give up
your flush toilet....

You dont have the certification? Then no contract

I retired 10 years ago. At that time, as you say, no certification, no sale. The problem then was some buyers wanted FSC, some SFI. The two certifications were often in conflict with each other. And both, costly to manage

Agreed (they are crazy), but, use it against them: Their worry means the greenies should oppose more immigrants coming in to the US. Just think how many more trees will die to “clean up” millions of new, formerly impoverished immigrants, instead of those people using leaves, rocks, or whatever back home...

I wonder what the resources used amount to for incontinence supplies? I have an elderly relative with a serious such problem, and the amount of trash generated is astonishing...

Maybe we can get AOC on the warpath against incontinence supplies. That should rankle some high ranking Dems!

Britain keeps substituting wood chips for coal to fire their generators. Might be a connection.

It’s those Canadian bears I see on the tv commercials. They are using toilet paper. They should use pine cones like good European bears.
