WANAQUE, N.J. Some students at a New Jersey high school are upset that they wont be able to make a grand entrance by taking limousines and luxury cars to their prom.
Lakeland Regional High School administrators sent a letter to parents this week stating that prom attendees must take school-provided and chaperoned coach buses to and from the venue in June.
Schools Superintendent Hugh Beattie says its a matter of safety and equity...

More money for a prom dress.
Equality...another reason to Homeschool...
Ok, fine. The students should find another venue, allow limos and whatever else they want far, far away from the school. Parents should fire the moron superintendent.
Horse hockey. The crash was the company’s and driver’s fault.
How about school buses not having seat belts and incompetent drivers?
Geez, let the kids arrive in whatever their parents and legal guardians allow. The school isn’t the parent or the legal guardian. Better yet, homeschool and throw their own prom.
I remember that. What a tragedy. New Jersey teens are extremelyn spoiled, as are most kids today . 65 years ago, we took the subway to the prom. One girl was able to persuade her Dad to take her and her friends in his Florist’s Van ....like 12 kids, packed in like sardines! Ah... the good old days!
I'm familiar with upstate New York. In December 2018 I actually drove through the intersection where that crash took place.
Upstate New York is beautiful, but it's a fading remnant of what it used to be. The limo company is owned by a Pakistani who fled to his home country after the incident ... and that company ain't headquartered in New York City.
That sounds very likely.
Oh, and everyone will have to ride in the back of the bus.
Equity? At a prom? Are all the girls going to come in identical dresses? And all the boys in navy blue suits?
Exactly.
Very common lack of logic. One very atypical accident and suddenly all limos are unsafe. I've not done any research whatsoever and don't have to. There are thousands of limos on the roads everyday and only this one tragic accident is known to me. I'm sure there are others just like there are tragic bus accidents but that does not make buses unsafe.
So many people look for an exception to a rule and when they find one they think that invalidates the rule. WRONG!. The "exception" by definition PROVES the rule is valid and true otherwise it would not be an exception it would be common.
If it’s just “Its about the limos.”, then why did they also ban ‘luxury cars’, you know, like Lincoln Towncars, Mercedes, Rolls, etc?
In other words, it’s not ‘about the limos.’
You are kidding right? You must be. "Safety" is the universal excuse for nanny state libs. Limos are not unsafe. You are literally just making stuff up. Prom night in Texas every limo in the state is on the road (thousands) and yes we have country roads here in Texas also. There has never been a rash of prom night limo crashes and this event has been going of for decades. Again you are making up stuff.
This is no big deal-—and common.
I had grandchildren graduate from 3 different suburban high schools in the Boston area and they ALL had to take the busses into downtown Boston where they had the prom in nice hotels.
They were then bussed back to their schools.
Makes perfect sense—and I guess a lot of mischief took place in the limos when they were allowed.
.
The venue is 45 minutes away. I think the equity here applies to them all arriving at the same time. You know how sometimes cars break down on the way, a flat tire or someone gets lost and arrives towards the end of the prom. This way they can start the festivities at the same time. Heck, I'd think that the bus ride would be considered as starting the party early!
I wonder who picked a venue so far away. Aren't proms usually at school?
Let me clarify what I meant by you are making stuff up. I’m not talking about braking and weaknesses. All kinds of specialized vehicles have these types of issues. Concrete trucks, liquid tankers etc. What I mean is that you are taking one accident and making up in your mind that limos are unsafe. That can’t be true or it would have been demonstrated a long time ago.
I think you’re replying to the wrong person.
Social Equity = Free cheese In Mouse Trap
Why don’t they make all the kids were Mao jackets and pants, too, since there is so much money spent on tuxes and gowns? And no flowers. Make a donation to the DNC’s 2020 slate instead, kids.
And they will be issued same-sex prom dates.
I really don’t know what to make of it, or feel strongly either way.
