24lbs was what was left after being scavenged by other animals.

They are going to make sure the SJW’s punish him.

Of course a 35 to 40 pound cat is a very dangerous animal. The average weight for adult male bobcats is about 26 pounds and those topping 30 pounds are extremely rare. And bobcats attack deer including some that are full grown and not sick.

"The mountain lion was determined to be around 3 to 4 months old and weighed 24 pounds at the time of its necropsy. The animal was scavenged after its death."

So how much was scavenged off the Kitty?

First time I seen one I thought it was a bob cat.

24 pounds was what the remains weighed after being partially eaten by animals. But the guy got a total of less than thirty stitches, three of them in his wrist, where the cat’s mouth was.

What is the saying, not the size of the fighter by the amount of fight in the guy? Average weight of a badger is about 24 pounds. (And the cougar, alive, was 35 to 40 lbs).

Haha. Had a house cat bigger than that. 26 pounds of mostly muscle. He was unnaturally big for a tabby. Granted there were a few occasions where he got moody and you wouldn’t want to tangle with him. Dealt with a feral tabby once that lunged and jumped onto the hubs, had it’s claws sunk into his cheek. This guy is lucky it wasn’t even just a few months older than it was.

Me too...I think the first time I realized it was when I did a greased pig chase when I was maybe 10 years old, and I thought I would have no problem overpowering the pig, which didn’t look that big to me.

But grease or no, when I leaped on it, it squrimed with such intensity and energy I remember being initially shocked at it. It was nothing like wrestling with another kid!

If a 24 pound domestic cat jumped on me it would get a beating, and I would hunt it down and beat it some more. If it jumped on my wife or kids, it’s dead. A cat out in the woods, domestic or otherwise is dead. I’ll need the body to check for rabies.

Is the claws. They aren’t worn out by anything, and are razor sharp.

Any animal that weight is dangerous. If you don’t think so, I dare you to pick up a squirrel sometime...

I grabbed a kitten once, one of 4 feral ones in our yard. Only took me a half second to put it down. I had deep scratches from fingertips to elbows, and the thing bit through two fingernails. No more than a full second...it was maybe six inches long.

I had a cat a few years back. Complete monster, hated everyone. Slightly larger than normal, most people had sense enough to leave her alone. I had to deal withher...no telling when she would decide that’s enough petting and suddenly CHOMP...no warning, just turn vicious in an instant.

I don’t want a 30 lb wild cat attacking me, a 15 lb tame one is more than a handful...

Certainly. But a cat that age should still be in the play-with-it-’’til-it’s -dead phase of it’s hunting career. I doubt it ever took on anything nearly as large as this guy, before. And I wouldn’t wanna mess with a 10 pound raccoon if I was trying to strangle it. Once fight-or-flight is triggered, even a rat gets really ugly.

Good points. So did this cat not know enough to stay away from a larger animal (in this case a human) and tried to take a bite out of him - and the guy understandably defended himself, or - was the cat so unafraid that it came up to the guy, the guy went to grab or pet the cat - and then the cat freaked out?

Even if the guy did do something stupid and tried to pet the mountain lion, from the looks of his injuries, he hopefully has learned his lesson. No sense worrying about the dead “kitten” anymore.

Have they ruled out rabies?

Cats are curious...who knows. It might have approached him, from behind, I would think. If he was running, well....we had a youngish cougar in the dunes up north. People would drag things behind their ATVs for it to play with. I don't think they have an inborn fear of man. That's what's so annoying about the ban on hunting them with dogs(Oregon). They don't learn to fear us, or dogs.

The guy was plenty messed up, but only 3 stitches from the cat. Maybe he tried to fend it off and it grabbed his hand.

Even a “Kitten” is a whole lot of cat.

I have “hugged” a 5 month old Bengal tiger. 35/40lbs? the muscles under that fur are rippled and tight. Glad he only wanted the bottle of milk.

24 lbs at necropsy means it was 24 lbs of what was left after being scavenged. So likely about 100 lbs prior to scavenging.

I’m sure he’ll catch crap for this anyway but everyone will miss the scavenged detail.

Ok - I retract my last I missed the 35-40 lb part there... I still think that’s a low estimate.
