We need all the allies in Asia we can get to stand against the Chinese—and the Vietnamese, like the Koreans and Japanese, among others, of course have historical reason to fear them.
I wouldn’t want to fly a Russian plane either.
The IL-62 is a surprisingly reliable if noisy and short-legged aircraft - good enough that a number of Western operators bought them as well as the Japanese (which should tell you something). However, North Korea’s IL-62s haven’t been maintained by Russians or any first/second world country. They’ve been maintained by North Koreans using North Korean resources.
Whether something Russian and complex that was maintained by North Koreans out of local resources is worse than something simple and designed by North Koreans and maintained by North Koreans is, as I said before, something I leave up to you. :D
I’ll stick with something built and maintained in first world countries. :)

A guy that I worked with from a previous job gave a presentation on his work trip in Russia. Lousy living conditions at remote sites. He said the scariest part was the old helicopters.
To extend their range, they had 55 gallon drums strapped to the landing gear. While in flight a guy would open up the drum, open up the gas tank, lean outside and start hand pumping fuel!

I served 2 tours in Vietnam. I’ve never feared them. I even rendered life saving aid to an enemy soldier who’d been shot 3 times. Of course it was off to a POW camp instead of dying.
Bottom line. I like the Vietnamese. I trust them more than I would trust the Saudis, Turks or some of the others our politicians call friends.

I was just watching some of the videos on You Tube - two things. There is a crowd of Vietnamese standing for hours outside of his hotel hoping he will come out so they can see him and two two reading the comments (all favorable) from people around the world commenting on President Trump.
President Trump is working for America and the world to bring peace.
What have the Democrats been doing to assist the President?
Nothing but obstruction, name calling, fake investigation, worshiping the false god “Climate Change” and making it legal to murder new born babies.
The Elections are just under two years away. It is up to the voters to decide who has a better road map to our future, the Democrats or our President (noticed I did not say the Republicans since I now consider the Republican party just a subsidiary of the Democrats.

That was a bizarre one. Culturally there is still much racism against blacks among the Chinese, and I wonder if that played into it.
Fat BOY has no planes So OUR president does a major deal for planes just before they meet with the Vietnamese ( actually one old one that’s in need of repair)
