It is interesting that they (North Korea) used “an armored train” (a very, very old Russian Revolutionary tactical favorite “toy” of Stalin, Lenin and that era) to pass unstopped THROUGH China with no recognition and no ceremonies with the Red Chinese government en-route.

Kind of like the Canadian Prime Minister being locked in a train from Montreal to the Rio Grande as they passes through the US headed for Mexico. Or, echoing Lenin again, Lenin being locked in a train as he was smuggled through Germany to begin the Russian Revolution during WWI. Which also helped Germany because it was Lenin’s war that stopped Russian involvement in WWI and freed up German Army from the Eastern Front.

I returned to DaNang, taking my wife, too, in 2004 to do some missionary work. At the end of our stay, we all flew to Saigon. Yes, the locals STILL call it Saigon, rather than the official “Ho Chi Minh City”.

In our few days there, I was struck by the impression that there are more capitalists/free enterprise people in Saigon than in Charlotte or Atlanta, let alone NYC, DC, LA, San Fran or even Seattle!

Their government might be communist, but the people are friendly and steeped in free enterprise.

You don’t have a communist government and free enterprise. That’s like having hot and cold at the same time. Asia is reverting to its historical past. You have authoritarian rulers running a market society. It used to be aristocracy type rule, now it’s party rule. It could well morph back to aristocracy as it is apparently doing in North Korea.

“You don’t have a communist government and free enterprise.”

You don’t understand the Vietnamese. The government is communist, but the people aren’t.
There are more capitalists/free enterprise businesses in Vietnam that many places in the USA. For one thing, their small businesses aren’t burdened down by mountains of bureaucratic regulations, red tape and taxes.
Try putting up a store anywhere in the USA. You will need permits and inspectors and payoffs. Do the same thing in Vietnam and the business just get created and the cash comes in.

If the government you live under is communist then you are a communist.

I believe we’re on the verge of having won the Vietnam War. And I’ve every confidence that will continue.

For the first meeting in Singapore, the Fat Boy flew in a Chinese Plane. Remember how we talked about what it would mean, if Trump sent one of his own planes to transport him?

It is up to the voters to decide who has a better road map to our future...

Seems to be up to the vote counters - the voters themselves don’t have much say any more.

Last time he flew to Singapore on an Air China Boeing 747-400, so unless the Chinese are sick of his act already he has better options than Air Koryo. :)
