Ric “The Nature Boy” Flair rang in his birthday in style on Friday night in Atlanta.

The wrestling legend’s wife, Wendy Barlow, put together a surprise party with 160 guests in celebration of Flair at The 1818 club.

“I am so overwhelmed by this whole night. Every one of my peers and my friend are all here to celebrate me,” Flair told PEOPLE. “I mean come on, I am so lucky. I am just so lucky. I am looking around the room in just complete awe. I never thought I would live to see this day. I am overcome with emotion.”

He could back flip over the top rope to DQ his opponent at will.

ESPN did a 30 for 30 on him called “Nature Boy” - it was interesting, funny, & depressing as hell. He has been through a lot in his life.

I unknowingly sat next to him on a flight from CLT to PHL about 10 years ago. The flight crew was fawning all over him.

So I asked him “who are you?”

“I am Ric Flair!”. Then he laughed. “You are probably the only guy in the world who has not heard of me!”

I laughed. I doubt you’ve heard of me too!”

We both had a great laugh over that. He could not have been nicer, even though I’ve since learned what a super star he is in the wrestling world.

Late 70s in a rural NC high school gym a troupe of wrasselers came to town and did a show. I still chuckle when I hear the term rastlin ain’t fake!
Rick was there too! We howdy’d.

He has been through a lot in his life.

More like he's put himself through a lot in his life. It's a miracle the guy has lived this long

Oh, yeah.... He treated his body, his wives, and kids all like crap. He appears to know it, but it doesn’t change the past/damage done.

Anybody who says it’s fake can get in the ring with the Nature Boy and go 60 minutes - I dare you. Outcomes are staged and storylines are fake but guys like Flair, Stone Cold and Bret Hart would rip your lungs out and feed them to you.

I was a Nature Boy fan back in the early 80’s when him and Playboy Buddy Rose and Roddy Piper ruled Portland Wrestling with Don Owen. So much better than this kiddie WWE PC crap.

“Anybody who says it’s fake can get in the ring with the Nature Boy and go 60 minutes - I dare you”

The Canadian “Mad Mountain Mike” was one of my good friend’s cousin and MMM would come down from Canada occasionally and visit.

The guy was huge and he was a real friendly fellow. He told us that the fights are both rehearsed and staged but the REAL fights take place in the locker room afterwards when heated arguments take place about certain moves or punches that didn’t get pulled or other things that were not scripted.

I heard it from the source and I know these wrestler’s are athletes, I didn’t say they were not. But it is a highly choreographed sport.
