Reading through the list of Oscar winners, I realize that I have not watched a single one of these movies. Not one. Not only not the winners, but none of the nominees. Am I alone in this?
Are movies bad today? The stories, the politics, the PC BS, yes. But mostly because it is so out of step with our viewpoints, morals, and ethics. Movies have always been political at some level. But they have been entertaining and sometimes thought-provoking. Today's selection represented by the Oscars is not inspiring.
This is a continuing trend. Over the past couple of years I have counted one or two movies I've watched, most I ended up panning. None were memorable. Last year's winner? Don't recall. The previous year, nope. Oscars aside, what was the last great movie, even good movie?
How about you? Do you find the movies, any of these Oscar nominees and winners, worth watching? Is it us or is it the movies that have changed?
Nope.
The only movie I watched in a Theater was “They Shall Not Grow Old”.

I don’t know. Where could I find a list of the movies so I can answer that question? Never mind. I think I can safely say, I very probably didn’t watch any. I am totally not interested in what Hollywood puts out.

I didn’t see any of the Oscar nominated movies, either. And, I have about 2000 movie DVDs. Movies today seem to be remakes, sc - fi, marvel trash, or scary flicks. Not for me. They don’t make good movies anymore.

The last movie that I saw at the theatre was Top Gun in 1988, I think. I have quite the boycott going.
Two decent movies I’ve seen recently (cable movie channels) were “Legend” with Tom Hardy and “The Death of Stalin”. Both were well done, IMO, and free of PC.
Not a one nor a minute of the Hollywood circle jerk awards.
In 1978, my first year in the Air Force, I probably went to 70 movies that year (a dollar per entry, and another buck for popcorn/Coke). With prices nearing $9 to $10 for a Sunday afternoon showing, and $10 for a popcorn/Coke....I probably see an average of one to two movies a year on average. The pricing makes it ridiculous. At some point in 2012, I actually decided about 40 minutes into the movie to walk out. For the money I’m putting out, I need to expect it to be a ‘winner’.
No, other than Black Panther haven’t seen a one of them, and honestly the fact Black Panther was nominated shows you what a joke the oscars are... it’s an okay movie for its genre, but hardly Oscar worthy.. and only is on the list because it would draw viewers to the award show and it had a mostly black cast.
That’s it.
Has no business being considered for picture of the year.
Politics not merit are what the oscars have been about, largely for decades.
As an old, “shut in”, I spend a great deal of time watching old, B&W movies on Youtube. Or, TV series reruns I didn’t have time to watch during my working years.
The last time - the very last time - I was in a movie theater was when “Top Gun”, with Tom Cruise, came out. My son took me there on a weekend because he knew - having been in the Air Force - that I like movies about airplanes, jets, etc.
So, all that to say, the “oscars” is a non-starter for me, and has been for years and years...I rather see old episodes of “The Andy Griffith Show”.
I have noted that there is very scarce coverage of the event in the news today - except, of course, for the “Trump bashing” parts of it. Figures.
No, of course not.
No normal person has any interest in that filth and/or propaganda.
2016 - Bridge of Spies with Tom Hanks was decent.
