(CNN)Earlier this week, pro golfer Matt Kuchar defended the $5,000 he paid his fill-in caddie after winning $1,296,000 at the Mayakoba Classic in Mexico, his first PGA tournament victory in four years. But on Friday, Kuchar issued a statement saying he'll pay the rest of the $50,000 that caddie David Ortiz requested.

Stop it with that nonsense, you can't guarantee anything...Kuchar needed a caddy no matter what country he was from.
Read the articles regarding the incident, there's not one PGA professional that agrees with what he attempted to do...........Even his own caddy refuses to make a statement so you know how he really feels.....
His first win in 4 years. Thats a long draught. Its not surprising hed be a cheap when it came time for the cut. He may never win again. The PGA guys who finish near the bottom missing the cut much of the time dont exactly live large.
I’d have stopped the original $5000 check and told the caddy to get stuffed...
“He will never carry a pro bag again.”
Bingo. If the caddy didn’t negotiate the upside, it’s his fault. Not the player’s.
Being a local familiar with the course, the caddy might well have given Kuchar more than a little advantage.
He should get at least the usual ten percent.
After just winning $1,290,000.....???
Sure you would have...You'd not only have lost all respect on the PGA tour but every one of your sponsors......
Of course he should have......
His regular caddy couldn’t make it so he offered a local ten times the going rate and then won. The caddy had no claim to the winnings.
Of course he didn't, nobody is saying he did.
Just as no PGA caddy has any claim to any of the winnings of his golfer, it's just standard protocol for any PGA golfer to give his caddy, no matter who it is, a 10% bonus of his winnings........Nice try
OK... I missed the count on the zeros... Thought he had won 129,000... Danged old eyes...
Five thousand would be Almost 100 thousand in Mexico, oh yes the poor guy who has probably never had more
than ten pesos in his pocket really got slinked.
Yea, probably.........Sheesh!
“”After winning the tournament and the $1,296,000 prize money, he only gave his caddy $5,000 as opposed to the 10% normally given to his and the regular pro tour caddies””
He paid him $5,000 when he should have paid the normal 10% of the winnings or $12,960 and he’s going to pay him $50,000 more. Who’s his accountant? I don’t get it...
I feel like I should get my mini violin out right about now.
Would he have won without a caddy?
$50,000 to carry a bag?!
That makes no sense.
Yes a PGA caddy is contracted to a 10% winnings.
Now the drug cartels will want their cut from the caddie.
100% please and they won’t say please.
a good caddy does a lot more than carry your bag
10% gross or net?
10% of 1.2 mil is 120k.....
