‘Captain Marvel’ presale tickets have already outpaced those of ‘Wonder Woman’

“Captain Marvel” is already smashing box-office records, and it hasn’t even hit theaters yet.

Tickets for the film, featuring Academy Award winner Brie Larson in the title role, went on sale in January. They have outpaced presales of DC rival “Wonder Woman” at the same point in the ticket sales cycle in 2017, according to Fandango.

Fandango did not release the dollar figures of the total ticket presales.

“Captain Marvel” is now the second-highest advance ticket seller for superhero origin stories two weeks prior to its release, just behind “Black Panther.”

“Captain Marvel” is pacing just behind “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Black Panther” as the third top seller of all Marvel Cinematic Universe titles during that same time frame.

Strong presales of “Captain Marvel” tickets is a good sign for Disney, which owns Marvel Studios, as “Infinity War” and “Black Panther” collectively brought in more than $1.38 billion at the U.S. box office alone in 2018. Globally, the two films grossed more than $2.2 billion.

”‘Captain Marvel’ has a great ’90s sci-fi vibe with a tone unlike any other Marvel movie,” Erik Davis, managing editor at Fandango, said Thursday. “It’s one of the most unique superhero origin stories we’ve ever seen. With surging advance ticket sales, thanks partially to the positive critics’ reactions from this week’s first screenings, it’s clear that this ‘Cap’ has the right stuff when it comes to moviegoer appeal.”

“Wonder Woman” was always going to be the benchmark for comparison when it came to the theatrical debut of “Captain Marvel.” At the time of its release, “Wonder Woman” was the first female-led superhero film in more than a decade. It earned $103 million in its opening weekend, a feat “Captain Marvel” hopes to beat on March 8.

According to Time magazine, Infinity Wars alone grossed $2.048 billion.

Many will be inclined to compare Captain Marvel’s success to Wonder Woman’s, but I’m not sure it’s a fair comparison. Expectations for Captain Marvel will be much higher than they were of Wonder Woman.

Han Solo did great business in presales and underperformed later.

I don’t expect it do quite as well as “Black Panther” or “Infinity War”, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it makes in excess of $750 million.

Her character has been around for over 40 years.

Publicly expectations are high but the actress who plays captain marvel has diarrhea of the mouth and has been insulting the white Male fan base of marvel movies for the last six months. I think in private that the producers want to get this film out of the way and either recast the actress or not do anymore captain marvels. money speaks and further movies are really dependent on what happens with the fan base. I think we might have a Ghost Buster situation where because of the insulting of the potential movie goers the box office is impact negatively.

When are they going to have a transgender Wonder Woman, with the strength of a man?

“Her character has been around for over 40 years.”

Carol Danvers was Ms. Marvel until 2012 when she became Captain Marvel in one of her many reboots.

The same wss true for that SJW POS “Solo.” It was a bonofide bomb.

This is SJWs manning the ramparts after the DESTRUCTION of ST, SW, DW, GB 2016 and now fhe MCU. The DCEU doesnt have an SJW pfoblem, just a storry telling, movie writing one.

Laced water supplies? Chem trails are real?

Something is up. No one is grown, maturation has been stunted.

Adults discussing Wonder Woman versus Captain Marvel?

Who’s stronger, Mr. Hood, Tarzan or Flash Gordon. -The Little Rascals.

(It’s not just the movies.)

Well, this is Marvel Comics...some characters change powers, costumes, and codenames quite frequently. Just look at Jean Grey (Marvel Girl/Phoenix), for example.

You might be right. Honestly, I was fired up for the movie but becoming less so daily. If the leaks I’m hearing about he movie are true, there are at least a couple things in the movie that will piss off long-term diehard fans.

I seriously doubt they will change the actress though.

Adults discussing Wonder Woman versus Captain Marvel?

Given that there are hundreds of millions of dollars at stake, why not?

I often think that DC could start to take Marvel head on if they’d just make Superman more like the Christopher Reeve one in Superman I and II instead of the darker, “edgier” one they’re obsessed with creating. The character only works when he’s more of a boy scout (of the olden days ... Not these days where girls can be boy scouts).

Of course, that would mean that he’d have to be for truth, justice, and the American way ... I guess that doesn’t fly in Hollywood these days (pun intended).
