[snip]
I wanted to believe Smollett. I really did. I know that there is a deep, dark racist history in Chicago and, if proved true, this would be just one more point on the list. I wanted to believe him with every fiber of my being, most of all because the consequences if he were lying were almost too awful to contemplate.
And yet I struggled with Smolletts story.
I tried telling myself that it is possible that two assailants were walking around downtown Chicago at 2 a.m. in January in 10-degree weather, waiting for a black victim. In addition to that, they were stalking around with a bottle of bleach and a rope. And ultimately, the prey they selected was an actor on a show that they mustve been somewhat familiar with, because they were able to not only name the show but also know that he played a gay character. Never mind the fact that he was likely bundled up because again: Chicago, January, 10 degrees. Also, after he fought to get away, he left the rope around his neck until he got to the hospital.
Perhaps I dont want to believe him because this is a stark and scary reminder of the poor condition of the country (and city) that I call home. Maybe this story makes the boogeyman in my nightmares all too real, too close and too calculating. Maybe its because while I consider myself an ally to the LGBTQ community, I still dont understand and appreciate the daily harassment that they endure. Or maybe even though I am a black woman, I still dont know what its like to be a black man in America.

“Breaks your heart?” Good, and be gone, leftist idiot.
He let down everyone in the racial grievance industry.
I don't know about the "first example" we will cite. It's just the latest. Wake up, liberal. Ya'll fake this crap and try to frame your hatred all the time.
It’s always jump to conclusions for them. You would think they would have learned by now but nope.
It reads like a Yelp review. Who authorized this high school paper article to be printed, the night valet parking attendant?
I doubted Juicy Smellit, and I was right.
She DIDN’T want to believe him, for all the wrong reasons, and she WANTED to believe him for all the wrong reasons. And she evidently thinks that backwards reasoning was right, so...apparently, even if it was a hoax, it was cool, cause it showed what we terrible MAGA people WOULD have done, if we’d thought of it...or something...
“I know that there is a deep, dark racist history in Chicago...”
Lincoln owned slaves and The Southern States were outraged by his duplicitous stance..../S
So many on the left realize how foolish and tenuous their stated beliefs are, subconsciously. They long for vindication out of a deeply felt insecurity. You can not live saturated in blatant lies without qualms and doubts. They lack conviction.
Yeh what about all the other black on black violence in racist Chicago? Shes having trouble with truth and reality. Liberalism mental disorder on display.
Hillary Clinton started the name calling. The MSM ignored her super predator comment which I felt made her truely deplorable in the worst way.
They wanted it to be true because they believe all Trump supporters are racists and gay haters.
“Why? “
Virtue signaling.
The author wanted to experience the emotional thrill of being outraged.
The claim that Trump’s election has unleashed a wave of anti-gay violence was always lacking in evidence, so the evidence had to be manufactured.
The Smollet story didn’t pass the smell test the day it broke.
If she could understand most white people's lack of interest, she would be . . . insulted, I guess.
I just don't think about it until I'm accused of being racist and then I feel helpless to do anything about it. All I am is ignorant and uncaring.
Indeed. Ill go that pundit one further. There are whole industries completely dependent on it.
That's exactly right.
