Not long ago, I wrote about the most overrated hits songs of all time. I love compiling lists like those because they allow me to get in touch with my snarky side as well as rant a little. In that post four months ago, I mused about doing a list of overrated artists. Well, the time has come.
Here are the ten most overrated musical artists of all time. Dont get me wrong: I like some of the music by some of these artists, and though there are only a few bands and solo performers I completely despise, youll find that I dont hold back on how little I care for many of the folks on this list.
Believe me, Im aware that Im going to ruffle some feathers with this list. Im fine with that, because taste in music is always subjective. But as you read the list, keep an open mind and see if you agree with me. And even if you dont, just have fun reading it

Mrs. Miller.
Yes!
Single Handed Sailor is one of my favorite songs...
I attended Clapton’s 461 Ocean Boulevard concert at the Capital Center in the summer of ‘74. Eric shows up very late, plays for 25 minutes then leaves the stage. Announcer apologized, said Claton was I’ll. Never again.
“I’ve heard Eric Clapner....I think it was a thing that Eric Clapner the musician did...So I think that’s the wonderful part about it, but listen - I like Eric Clapner!”

“Everyone” does not know it. I lived through the mania, and never caught the disease.
The Beatles were a very good band with consistently high quality. So were some others. I have three of their albums, and I listen to them very occasionally.
I prefer middle-period (1965-73) The Beach Boys, or Tori Amos, or Delerium, or Alan Parsons, or Depeche Mode, or U2, or Led Zeppelin, or Lynyrd Skynyrd, or The Who, or The Eagles, or Pink Floyd, or Larry Norman, or Daniel Amos, or Sixpence None the Richer, or The Sundays, or... (the list goes on).
They were not gods, and they were not sheer perfection.
Rocky Raccoon? If any other band had published that, it would have been, at best, a minor cult hit - or an unequivocal embarrassment.
They were easily the most overrated of all time: No one is that good. No one.
Lennon knew art and marketing, and they had enormous help from the media creating their image.
Just like Obama.
I am an audiophile and a musician. Do not presume to speak for me and for “everyone”.
Clapton had gotten over a heroin addiction when he recorded that album, but he switched to alcohol. He was also living with George Harrison’s wife at the time.
But when it comes to his singing voice, he's no Russ Columbo or Vaughn Monroe.
