Ty Petersburg, a terrestrial biologist with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife...

Is his backup an extra terrestrial biologist?

That’s interesting ... the town of Timnath, CO is only about 10 miles away from the West Ridge Trail where this happened.

I guess this guy just gave new life to the tale of Samson and the young lion of Timnath.

Unrelated, Colorado’s Timnath was also a location that was “bombed” by the Japanese in World War 2 - The Japanese had launched thousands of hydrogen balloons into the Pacific jet stream. The payload would ignite the hydrogen upon landing, with the intention of causing fear and alarm. Some of them made it to the US mainland and a few were actually witnessed, like the one in Timnath.

A bit like coyotes. While hiking in the Sierras once, I came upon a German Shepherd a few hours after it had been felled by a pack of coyotes. They went for the lungs, not much else. I found out later the dog was a Forest Ranger’s pet. Sad.

And at least she was a terrific role model, very much unlike most celebs these days.

I know little about him as a person.

Hedy Lamarr
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Among the few who knew of Lamarr’s inventiveness was aviation tycoon Howard Hughes.

She suggested he change the rather square design of his aeroplanes (which she thought looked too slow) to a more streamlined shape, based on pictures of the fastest birds and fish she could find.

Lamarr discussed her relationship with Hughes during an interview, saying that while they dated, he actively supported her “tinkering” hobbies.

He put his team of scientists and engineers at her disposal, saying they would do or make anything she asked for.[36]

During World War II, Lamarr learned that radio-controlled torpedoes, an emerging technology in naval war, could easily be jammed and set off course.[37]

She thought of creating a frequency-hopping signal that could not be tracked or jammed.

She contacted her friend, composer and pianist George Antheil, to help her develop a device for doing that, and he succeeded by synchronizing a miniaturized player-piano mechanism with radio signals.[31]

They drafted designs for the frequency-hopping system, which they patented.[38][39] Antheil recalled:

“We began talking about the war, which, in the late summer of 1940, was looking most extremely black. Hedy said that she did not feel very comfortable, sitting there in Hollywood and making lots of money when things were in such a state.

She said that she knew a good deal about munitions and various secret weapons ... and that she was thinking seriously of quitting MGM and going to Washington, DC, to offer her services to the newly established Inventors’ Council.[22]”

Their invention was granted a patent under US Patent 2,292,387 on August 11, 1942 (filed using her married name Hedy Kiesler Markey).[40]

However, it was technologically difficult to implement, and at that time the U.S. Navy was not receptive to considering inventions coming from outside the military.[29] In 1962, (at the time of the Cuban missile crisis), an updated version of their design at last appeared on Navy ships.[41]

In 1997, Lamarr and Antheil received the Electronic Frontier Foundation Pioneer Award and the Bulbie Gnass Spirit of Achievement Bronze Award, given to individuals whose creative lifetime achievements in the arts, sciences, business, or invention fields have significantly contributed to society.[42]

Lamarr was featured on the Science Channel and the Discovery Channel.[13] In 2014, Lamarr and Antheil were posthumously inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.[43]

I like the line in that song (and thought it was appropriate here), where it goes...

"The cats don't bug him, cause they know better
       cause he's a mean motor-scooter, and a bad go-getter!"

...made it difficult for officials who later conducted a necropsy, or animal autopsy, to identify the big cat’s gender....

Cats don't have gender.

Neither do people.

It’s Samson. In real life he did tear the lion apart.

So the story goes. Ever seen a guy attacked by a 20 pound house cat. Not pretty. A 400 pound lion would tear a man apart - oh and they have. Daniel Boone kilt a bear is more believable.
