Roger Waters Stands with Nicolas Maduro, Praises Venezuelas Real Democracy Pink Floyd bassist and singer Roger Waters has a very strange criterion for defining "real democracy"...which he claims exists in abundance in totalitarian Venezuela.
Roger Waters has long been a supporter of far-left and socialist political causes (Twitter).
Once again, the founder of Pink Floyd is standing on the side of totalitarianism; a position that no doubt is a result of his ideological prejudices and misconceptions. In the guise of political activist he is always on the same side: the wrong one. His visceral rejection of Israel and his childlike faith in the righteousness of the Palestinian cause, his unconditional support for Argentinas Hebe de Bonafini and his bipolar vision of the world, in which the United States is to blame for everything, has already generated considerable repudiation from within the ranks of his fans.
Last year, at a concert in Brazil during election season, Waters saw how his politically-tinged speech generated applause, but also boos. Referring to the then candidate and current president Jair Bolsonaro, the English musician said he represented the resurgence of fascism. While a part of the audience applauded him, Waters also was able to see firsthand that many at the concert were Bolsonaro supporters. After his brief foray into Brazilian electoral politics (an area where he is undoubtedly an expert), he decided to quickly transition back to another hit song by his popular classic rock band. On Sunday morning, Waters weighed in on the current geopolitical crisis in Venezuela via his official Twitter account. There, Waters vindicated the dictator Nicolás Maduro and called for the United States to leave Venezuela alone. According to the rock icon, Venezuela currently enjoys a real democracy, much more so than in the United Kingdom or the United States. But Waters numerous critics received a great amount of buzz on social media, generating hundreds of likes and retweets.
More proof that liberal/demonrats are just communists in disguise.
Thanks.. reading it right now.
One has to wonder where Pink Floyd would have gone if Keith Barrett had not got lost in his own head.
It’s people like Roger Waters that defy logic. Can’t Waters see what misery that country has become and the people’s suffering?
Here you have a guy that benefited from a Capitalist system and made more money than he ever thought possible, yet like a lot of rich successful people they embrace Socialism and Leftist positions without seeing their own Hypocrisy.
If Waters truly believed what he says he would give away all his money and music rights and live on a small amount of money. But he will never do that.
Don’t you mean the one that sued to shut down the band?
Who listens to bass players?
I’ll wait to hear from the lead guitarist.
Yep. He lost that effort, IIRC.
Thanks for that!
We don’t need no education. We don’t need no thought control.
Just try listening to this acoustic version of "Wish You Were Here". It's just a beautiful song. Mobile:

I hate to use his art against him, but it’s odd that his “Pink” in “The Wall” had fantasies of being a Nazi.
(No, Pink Floyd isn’t a guy, but he IS a character in their rock-opera movie.)
There is a 1995 live Pink Floyd album and DVD called “Pulse.” It is excellent and there is no Roger Waters. It will also make you appreciate how vital Richard Wright was to the band. Of course, David Gilmour is awesome. Politically, he may not meet the Freerepublic purity test, but he is not an angry pinko like Waters.
Niiiiiice.
Ooh! Oo! Things that are smarter than Roger Waters!!!!
Thank you. Gilmore is great, but Waters changed the history of rock.
I bought tickets a few years back to see Pink Floyd and when I found they spent half the concert attacking Trump I called my card to cancel saying they lied to me and told me I was buying tickets to a musical concert and not a political protest.
All that needs added to the list is Maduro’s best-est buddy, Erdogan the Islamist Dictator of Turkey.
Yes.
Wish You Were Here is a good song.
I MEAN WRIGHT! NOT WATERS!!
Thank you. Gilmore is great, but Wright changed the history of rock.
#1 - Shut up and play your guitar
#2 - Why is it when these folks get old they say crazier things?
