German police say around 800 people have demonstrated in the southwestern city of Stuttgart against a new ban on driving older diesel cars. […]

… The move aims to fight air pollution, but critics say they don’t have money to buy new cars.

The DPA news agency reported that nearly half of Saturday’s demonstrators wore yellow vests, a reference to anti-government protests in neighboring France that began with protests against a fuel tax hike. …

I bet the addition of pollution from these older cars is minimal.

It is all about power and control.

I don’t know what pollution they are talking about. I drove an Austrian assembled Jeep Commander with Benz OM642 3 liter diesel. Performance is only second to hemi and not by much but be mileage is on par or better than mid-size gas powered car.

Nice to see even Germany recognizes the yoke that the globalists are trying to throw on them.

Still small, but it may grow into something bigger...

The EU woke, elite is so stupid.

Unable to learn from the reaction in France, they are going to do the same moves in Germany and elsewhere, and earn an EU-wide Yellow-Jacket Spring.

And it couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch !

I can respect Macron. He put the cost of environmentalist virtue signaling right on the pumps where everyone could see them. "You want to fight global warming? Here you go! Did you think it was going to be free?"

And that’s after about 20 years of European governments pushing diesel cars because of their better fuel mileage. The market share for diesel passenger cars was over 50% in Germany.

Now, the little dictators do an about face and want people to stop using their property. Petty fascism on display.

“Europe will be forged in crises, and will be the sum of the solutions adopted for those crises.”

The EU elites want rule by crisis. So watch out for their “solutions” from the top, designed to seize more and more power.

On top of that, it was not so long ago they were pushing biodiesel for those cars.

Obama helped them with their opening salvo here, going after VW and the alleged emissions “cheating” which I’ve never seen convincing proof of either way nor is such a thing a real concern anyhow.

“You want to fight global warming? Here you go! Did you think it was going to be free?”

EXACTLY - and if you polled the French, or people in California, or even people in the United States, for that matter, you would ALWAYS get the same result, which is:

“Sure, I’m willing to pay more, if that’s what’s needed to save the planet”

...until you actually make them pay more, that is.

I own and drive a '84 MB 300D. D for diesel.
Owned it since 1991 ... it now has 250,000 miles on the odometer.
Keep it in show quality condition ... last shown in a local car show this past September.
The only MBZ 300D in the show & the only MBZ from that era in the show.

Very nice; always thought the W123 was an impressive-looking car. Normally-aspirated 5-cylinder OM617 diesel IIRC.

You could probably get that up to a million miles without too much work on the car.

The VW diesel scandal was about tuning cars for real world performance rather than some contrived government emissions cycle.
