-15 here. Supposed to get to -5. Sun is out and wind has calmed, It’s not brutal like is was around daybreak. -60+ wind chill. You can’t even breathe in that. 5 minutes to frostbite.

And in Nome, AK, it’s +22d; in Barrow, AK, the northernmost place in the US, it’s -4d.

Go figger!

Wind chill is mostly hype.

About a half dozen formulas, and maybe more.

Only works for those running bare naked outside.
Maybe. Many variables.

If you want really cold... J. Gacy’s basement.

My aunt and uncle were once stationed at the SAC base in Minot ND, and they had brutal cold spells like what you all are now getting. Their cat taught itself to ring the doorbell to get let inside.

Years ago, when their father was unemployed, my nieces sent me a Christmas gift which was a tube sock filled with uncooked rice and handles sewn on both ends. You pop into to microwave for around 90 seconds and you have a very effective and reusable heating pad. It’s now marketable (by someone else) as “The Original Bed Buddy”.

I have also seen hand warmers and feet warmers I have recommended for people who must dress in official uniforms/costumes as part of their jobs (think drive-thru workers). There are creative and inexpensive ways to stay warm in these frigid conditions. God bless each of you.

Of course, to the doofus warmers, this is only "local" weather stuff. In Australia, where it's (always) a hot summer, it's Anthropogenic Global Warming.

I was just out. It has warmed up to 6 below here (Omaha, NE). Did not feel bad at all. No wind.

All K-12 schools closed, no mail delivery.

Forecast for Saturday is in the 40s.
