I LOVE Galaxy Quest! But then, I love anything with Alan Rickman in it. He was hilarious as Marvin the depressed robot, in Hitchhikers Guide To The Universe.

Only good thing about Battlefield Earth, was Barry Peppers. One of the DUMBEST premises EVER for a movie. But then, it was an L. Ron Hubbard concoction, if I’m not mistaken.

When I was 19 I took a first date to see Altered States. We came out of the movie and she stopped and turned to me and said, “That was the weirdest movie I’ve ever seen”.

Found out a bit later in the eve that she was only 16. She had all the attributes of a 20 year old. Took her home and GTHOOD.

My daughter and I watched “They Live” the other week. (Special sunglasses to see the aliens). Afterwards I apologized “I love it, but it probably isn’t as fast-paced and a big production like you are used to.”

“No - I thought it was really good, and more a story of the reality of today with the media and all of that. Plus, it was easier to follow along than all of the time-travel and dimension jumping of a lot of movies.”

I don’t know - I thought it was pretty good.

On MST3K!

Connery musta been desperately needing a payday to do that movie in that getup..

Connery hated the Bond connection——says he was used——and that they never paid him enough.

But the Bond execs say they gave him the part.....and that turned him into an intl star.

Re Sunshine, how did the bad guy get on the Ship?

It’s still a mystery to me.

>>>The Day The Earth Stood Still<<<
The original, not the idiotic remake.

Of course, if the Aliens could neutralize all Electricity on Earth, they would have no reason to fear Earthlings in the first place, which means the Robot Police wouldn’t need to turn Earth into a burned out cinder.

Michael Renny as Klatu, (the one and only) and Gort is the best serious Movie Robot. Robbie from Forbidden Planet gets second place, but why were his Arms so short?

Does the Disney version of 20,000 Leagues count? Came out the same time that Forbidden Planet did and I am still amazed with the Special Effects in both Movies. Of course James Mason is the only true Captain Nemo.

Of course this Thread is about “underrated” Sci Fi Movies, so pretty much everyone Posting is off base. LOL

The Last Starfighter, made in 1984. I think it was one of the first Movies (like Tron) to use all Computer Generated Scenes of the Spaceships and the Battles in Space.

Another underrated Move, TRON II.

Disney’s Black Hole, not so much. It needs to disappear.

They Live was a John Carpenter Movie that he intended as a slam at Ronald Reagan. It didn’t turn out that way IMHO.

They filmed across the Street from where I worked, the Bank of America Data Center in Los Angeles. The Building is in the background from where the Church and Encampment was. It’s the square White one with windows only going half way up. They even filmed some scenes on our Parking Structure one weekend.

Loved Rowdy Roddy Piper (RIP). The fight scene with his Friend was epic. It just went on and on.

I have included one of my Taglines to fit the occasion.

Go to wiki look up the movie and read the plot. The other ships were coupled at one point and that’s probably when he crossed over. And then because the first ship was sabotaged by the crazy Captain who was the sunburned guy they decoupled and somehow we’re able to deliver both payloads. I’m pretty sure it was a suicide mission at that point.
