Myth: Hitler was a leftist.
http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-hitler.htm | STEVE KANGAS

Summary

Many conservatives accuse Hitler of being a leftist, on the grounds that his party was named "National Socialist."

But socialism requires worker ownership and control of the means of production.

In Nazi Germany, private capitalist individuals owned the means of production, and they in turn were frequently controlled by the Nazi party and state.

True socialism does not advocate such economic dictatorship -- it can only be democratic. Hitler's other political beliefs place him almost always on the far right.

He advocated racism over racial tolerance, eugenics over freedom of reproduction, merit over equality, competition over cooperation, power politics and militarism over pacifism, dictatorship over democracy, capitalism over Marxism, realism over idealism, nationalism over internationalism, exclusiveness over inclusiveness, common sense over theory or science, pragmatism over principle, and even held friendly relations with the Church, even though he was an atheist.

Daddy brought home a stack of German money from WWII. It was worthless of course but was often beautifully engraved.

One, a fifty mark note, was interesting. It showed two workers. One powerfully built holding a large hammer. The other showed a farmer in a hat, holding a sickle.

Actually it was a scythe but you get the idea. It could just as easily been a Russian note.

100% correct.

As as Friedrich Hayek points out in “The Road To Serfdom”, political freedom and economic freedom are inextricably connected, and an infringement on one (as socialism most CERTAINLY is) invariably infringes on the other.

We allow Leftists to get away with fundamental flaws in their argument, and one of the biggest ones is that socialism is “fair”.

It isn’t.

What is “fair” is allowing individuals to determine how much their OWN efforts are worth instead having that evaluation made by a faceless group of people which is then impressed upon you, like it or not.

I bought William Shirer’s The Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich nearly 30 years ago. I attempted to read it several times but would always put it back on the shelf after a few chapters. Finally last year I pulled it out again and read all 1140 pages of it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t read it.

Roland Freisler, head of the 'Peoples' Court', was referred to by Hitler himself as "That Old Bolshevik!"

If you’re interested in Shirer, “Berlin Diary” is better.

I find it useful to envision, instead of the left-right dichotomy, a continuum between authoritarianism and liberty. The uniparty gets recognized for the statism it employs whether from the left or right.

I have something like that, brought back by my dad. It's a medallion that has the date 1934 on it, with a nazi hawk, whose face is turned to his left, with a hammer on one wing and a sickle on the other.

Above the hawk is a face of a man wearing a helmet. The inscription around the edge says "Tag der arbeit" - "Day of work".

My best guess is that it's bling from the Hitler yutes.

Another observation. Why is that both Nazi and Communist armies loved to Goose-Step? What’s up with that?

That the way I always thought of it

Fascism is a form of socialism that controls by the regulation of private property.

Communism is a form of socialism that controls by the ownership of private property.

Also.

The Communists never used the term “Nazi” to describe the Germans, they always use “Fascist”.

There were many differences between Mussolini’s Italian Fascism and Hitler’s Nazism.

So why didn’t the Soviets use “Nazis”?

Could it be because calling them “National Socialists” would be an admission that they indeed were fellow socialists?

“Hitler WAS a leftist. A socialist”

Odd that he built Dachau for the KPD.

Marx never wrote as to how the means of production would be accomplished or how it would work. Socialism can't work on any level and never has.

Because Marx never defined how it would work many have tried different methods and all have failed.

This Kangas guy is another Leftist Imbecile who is romancing a system that only works in the dim recesses of a Leftists mind.

I also enjoy listening to the broadcasts from that era. Shirer was a regular contributor along with Edward R. Murrow, it’s interesting to hear the take on events without the benefit of hindsight.
