Today there are new reasons to be hopeful about the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
First, according to research published in Nature Medicine, the disease may be detectable by a blood test 16 years before the onset of symptoms. Such a test, which detects certain proteins that may indicate early stages of the disease, would allow doctors to identify those individuals most at risk of developing it.
Second, there is a new Alzheimer’s vaccine known as UB 311, produced by a small company, United Neuroscience, in Dublin, Ireland, that has just delivered promising results in phase two clinical trials in humans.
In phase two trials, which are blinded, one group receives the study drug while the other group may receive a placebo. The numbers in this trial are small – just 42 subjects with mild cognitive impairment (pre-Alzheimer) – but the results are impressive, especially considering that the vaccine was both well-tolerated and effective.
The response to the vaccine was a whopping 96 percent. It didn’t cause the brain inflammation that previous vaccines did, and it did reduce the amount of amyloid plaque that had built up in the brain. Subjects also performed better on tests of thinking and memory.
A longer-term extension of this trial is next, and if successful, I think we will see this vaccine in widespread use sometime soon, not just for those with early Alzheimer’s disease, but for those at risk as well.
Vaccines work by triggering the immune system to make antibodies against a certain protein often found on the surface of an invading virus or bacteria. In the case of Alzheimer’s, the protein (beta amyloid) is made by the body itself. It is a clunky protein that gums up the brain. UB 311 has been shown to produce high amounts of antibodies against amyloid.

Seems to me that fasting a few times a year might greatly reduce buildup of that protein... as long as you fast long enough to trigger autophagy.
Too late for my father, but it might be useful to me or my children someday.

We’re a very complex organism that can go wrong in all sorts of ways. It’s almost unthinkable that Alzheimer’s could be prevented, but much more prevalent diseases have been overcome in the last hundred years.

I think you should go no carb. I wonder what happens when you get rid of a protein that the body makes. Somehow I think this may be like Flowers for Algernon. Once the antibodies finish with the protein in the brain, they will find it elsewhere in the body.
Alzheimer’s is likely caused by the great American diet. As carbs are added to diets in China and American Indians Alzheimer’s becomes more common. Don’t eat flower or sugar or corn syrup, just leafy green veggies, meat, cheese and nuts. All sorts of things will get better including your weight.
Wow, very encouraging. My Mother and all 9 of her siblings died of Alzheimers (and her Mother). There were 14 kids in my family and 7 have passed. 2 from Alzheimers. Must have some influence from my Dad’s side. This is hopeful, as the rest of us do have this disease in the. back of our minds.
Vaccines sound good but if you really look into them they have a LOT of other things in there that have nothing to do with what they supposedly cure, like Aluminum and other fun stuff. Do some research and you will find with some diligence that Vaccines cause way more problems than they solve

I try to keep up on this due to my late mom having it. I’ve gleaned that there are several things we could be doing for prevention, some mentioned already.
Avoid sugar and inflammatory oils, get exercise, don’t socially isolate, address hearing problems, get at least 8 hours of sleep, intermittent fasting, and brain-healthy foods like omega-3’s, blueberries.
Gosh, did anybody decide to get genetic testing? Not sure if I would want to.
So, enabling the majority of children to survive to adulthood--a thing which has never happened in all of history before vaccines were invented--is more of a problem than preventing disease?

When humanity lived all "natural", the average lifespan was in the 30s. Now that we have all of this unnatural medical intervention, the lifespan is more than twice that.
I suspect that those who promote anti-vax nonsense are the same people who would like to see most of humanity die off. Like all leftists who can't promote their true agenda, they have to lie. No parent would willingly expose their child to potentially fatal disease, so the anti-vax activists have to keep spreading the lie that vaccines are more dangerous than the diseases which used to kill most children by the age of five.
Is this a backdoor admission that Alzheimer’s is is caused by an infective agent? Just last year there was an increase in conjecture that the disease is a prion disease. Funny that caregivers of these patients are six times more likely to become victims themselves.
Doesn’t seem like the company is publicly traded?
They’ll get bought out by one of the giants.
