We were paying $11.99 and just canceled. Not a good selection of shows.

Now that there are enough cable cutters, those services outside of the monopolies will start getting more expensive. In some cases, the costs are being passed down from upstream charges. I also expect the cost of Internet-only services to go through the roof.

I like DirectTVNow—use it with ROKU on TV. Roku has lots of programming—no monthly fees.

Can use DirectTVNow on any device.

For live TV, don’t rule out antenna. In Nashville I pull in about 25 channels, including networks.

All “Local” digital providers are required to broadcast through the airwaves. So channel count has grown.

I recently used the antenna for the first time in a year when my comcast internet went out for 3 days. Usually I’m either watching Netflix or Youtube. Occassionally Crackle. But it worked great.

I’m considering alternatives to Netflix, because I’m running out of things I want to see, and more than half of their new content, I don’t want to see.

Can’t do an antenna (Apt building).

Even in an apartment, you might be able to use a flat wall mounted HDTV TV antenna. Check out this article on indoor TV antennas.

We stream Spectrum TV for 19.95 per month, no contract. It has about 100 channels, including local broadcast, but no ESPN.

I just picked up a TCL ‘Roku’ TV this Christmas after being without since 1996.
Roku hooks up to you router wirelessly and lets you run the ‘Roku’ app and add whatever else you want. Roku is available as an addon that plusg into your TV and makes it wireless too.
I added ‘Pluto’ channel, it is free and comes with an assortment of local channels...nice.
The TV came with a free month of ‘Sling’, It is okay but worth $25 when the rest is free?
Good luck with it.

“Only reason why I was getting live TV was local news.”

Missed that part.
What I’d do is go to the websites of the local tv news channels and check their “videos” section, assuming it has such a section.
Most the channels in my area have either have news videos on their sites or some stream their local news live online (or both).

I have ROKU for my Samsung 82” TV, in addition to xfinity/Comcast. Mind-boggling number of choices.

Honestly, you should try a good indoor antenna.

We did and got 35. We were in the bottom floor, blocked on all sides.

I put it up so the antenna was on the wall and nearly flush with the opposing window. If your TV is next to the window, tape it to the window.

We use Spectrum tv app through Roku right now, but we are going back to Sling. We switched only for Fox news, but screw it - MSM are all the same, anyway. Spectrum tv sucks.

We use amazon prime, roku, hulu and netflix for movies. Sling TV was a much better option than Spectrum for tv. More channels, better, more stable connection.

Get the indoor Clearstream eclipse from Walmart, at least if it doesn’t work you can easily return it.

if you line in an apt, chances are a small antenna INSIDE your apt will work - try and see.

Too many streaming services are following the old cable/satellite model — having to subscribe to select tiers to get the channels you really want.

The channel lists I have checked still have 50% or more channels I would never watch.

I have stated before: the service that offers full ala carte can own the streaming business in a short while.

Depending on your situation, a new digital antenna may work. The ones I’ve seen are flat like a sheet of paper and can be placed inside a window pane. In an urban setting they bring on lottsa stations. FWIW.

Can't do an antenna

How far are you from the towers? You should be able to do about 40 miles with an indoor tower; 50 if the conditions are good. Use an indoor with a booster, and add an in-line booster if necessary.

Use the tool here to get approximate mileages.

We dropped them several months ago, then a few days or week or so later they sent an offer of one year at $0.99 per month. We signed up for that offer and will again leave once it expires.
