Deadline Hollywood ^ | January 22, 2019 | Antonia Blyth

“I think the thing off the top of my head might be, ‘It’s about f***ing time,'” says Sam Elliott, in the wake of his first ever Oscar nomination. “Beyond that, it’s really about the work; it’s just about the creative process. It’s great to be recognized for that, that’s really all it’s about.”

Won’t spoil his big day by mentioning Road House

It’s a guilty pleasure. Stupid as hell, but fun. Sam makes the movie.

You have never heard of Sam Elliot? Then you have led a life free from western movies on the big and little screens. He played cavalry General Buford in “Gettysburg,” Sgt Maj Plumbley in “We Were Soldiers....”, one of the Sackett brothers in several tv adaptions of the Louis L’Amour westerns, and many other characters. He is one of my favorite actors. His co-star in the Sackett movies is another actor you’ve probably never heard of either, Tom Selleck.

His acting resume is at: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000385/?ref_=nv_sr_1

"My dad was a retired Infantry CSM. I like to think when he was in uniform he was a lot like CSM Plumley."

THE MOST accurate portrayal of a hard-nosed, no quarter, CIB-wearing CSM ever to grace the celluloid. It was a travesty he wasn't nominated for that performance.

But then Hollyweird isn't much for reality these days.

Sam was excellent in “Lifeguard” way back in the 70s. There are young women in my family who melt when he comes on the screen.

I loved it when, after busting his chops earlier in the movie CSM tells SGT Savage “That’s a nice day, Sergeant Savage.”

Great leadership.

I didn’t like the first Star

I liked Elliot as that emotionally unavailable lifeguard early on

Silly movie

And Mask

“Mind your own business, dad!” ....The best part of that is that Terry Funk (who says it) is older than Sam Elliot. Then again, nothing in the movie makes sense. That’s why it’s so fun to watch :o)

Prancer was filmed in Michigan while I was living there.
They offered a part to Jimmy Stewart but he was too sick to accept. The little girl unfortunately grew-up to become a major league envirowhacko.

When you say “first Star” which do you mean? There was one in the 30s, one in the 50s and one in the 70s.
