The NFL is being urged to fire the crew who officiated the NFC Championship game between the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints over a blown call in the fourth quarter of the matchup.
A petition launched after the Rams defeated the Saints in overtime, 26-23, has asked the league to fire official Bill Vinovich and the rest of the officials who were in charge Sunday afternoon. The officials came under fire after missing a clear pass interference penalty late in the fourth quarter.

Sean Payton has no class and is a crybaby. He knew, and approved, the Saints Defensive effort to take Brett Farve out of NFC Championship game in 2009 with late hits and said nothing.
Screw the Saints. Screw Sean Payton. I am glad for the excruciating nature of the losses the last 2 years. I hope same thing happens next year.
He says he didn’t see it, but from what I see he fails to mention who did/should have seen it.
Looking but I don’t see anything. Am I looking in all the wrong places?
They are not blowing calls.
They want to make the NFL more marketable.
Notice also that LA and Boston WIN.
blue coast politics is absolutely how NFL and ESPN roll.
This is a fine example of what is wrong with our country. Sore losers can't accept results and deal with it.
If not for that blown call, the Rams wouldn't have won. So your point, made to dismiss the Saints complaint, applies mostly to the Rams who needed that play to win.
Same for peewee league coaches? Jr. High? High school? College? Disdain for professional coaches without disdain for all others is inconsistent.
So you're saying that the Lions could have made it into the playoffs and possibly the league championship had it not been for that one play in each of their games?......LOL!
Yeah.
All the games they lost turned on one play, and they coulda won them, but they didn’t because instead they lost.
There is always a play where one team goes the right way, and the other team goes the wrong way, and it goes on from there, just like the other day.
Get over it, it’s all fake. The only ones happy the sports bettors, LA and the NFL refs pension and benefit bank accounts.
I watched it a few more times today in real-time. It looks like contact when the ball arrives. Slow motion makes the hit look like 5 hours earlier. Last year it was a miracle, this year it was a mugging. Can’t wait to see what happens next year...
Make pass interference calls and non-calls reviewable. They can result in huge amounts of yardage and, like yesterday, they can decide a game. They can’t be left to a referee’s mistake.
Jeez Man - this is a pro football play-off game. This assumes that both teams are equally matched. Every play and point matters. So many close game this late and post season.
Baseball games and series are won by 1 run. Golf matches by 1 stroke. Soccer, hockey - so many matches won and lost by one point. Penalties matter and in this case a wrong/missed call by PRO officials changed the outcome.
If the Rams defensive player had not PENALIZED the Saints receiver then what would have been the outcome?
“well, we could all go into the corner and wring our hands, if that would make you happy...”
Yeah, you could do that, or alternatively, you could stop using FR for your “sports page!” The only articles worthy of posting on FR have to deal with the machinations of the $hit people who run “professional sports” coupled with the “overpaid animals” who work for them as they disrespect our country. It tells me a lot about you that you would make such a comment, but given that you seem to be “wedded to sports,” I guess I should have expected it. The old adage: “All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing” certainly applies here, doesn’t it! So you go right ahead sitting in front of your “Big Screen,” hoovering beer and ballpark franks, until you wake up one day and realize that while you’ve been indulging yourself in this useless nonsense, your personal freedom has been taken from you!
BTW my wife is Irish. Her family were at the outset, dirt poor farmers, but her father had an idea about a business that now brings in $500,000,000. per year! His only regret was playing HS football and getting his back f*cked up! What have you done with your life?
If one team lost based on one play, then the other team won based on one play. So neither team deserved to win, right? So does that just give the Patriots a walk-over in the Super Bowl? Maybe the Super Bowl should be just cancelled since the Patriots don't win if the Chiefs' lineman doesn't line up off-side with 54 seconds left. Without that call, the interception of Brady stands and the Chiefs run out the clock.
I agree. After watching it many times, it was so bang-bang, Id have a hard time to too judgmental. Even if the pass was completed, the Saints would have still been short of getting a first down.
The receiver didnt seem to be claiming it was a penalty. He pretty much hopped up and went back to his bench area.
I didnt see the game, so I looked for another play because surely there shouldnt be this much outrage over THIS call. If the alleged penalty was for face guarding, there might be a complaint.
After watching it several times, the DB May have gotten there a split second early, but it looks like a reasonable no-call to me.
Its really tragic for the Saints. However I see it all as part of the total NFL product. They go out of their way to insult me. A fixed game seems like business as usual.
I used to think how special the Super Bowl was. It was something most Americans focused on at the same time.
Don't forget, there are three teams on the field of play every Sunday.
There was nothing but pass interference this whole year. The non calls were legion.
