My grandfather was a WW1 combat vet that got hit with mustard gas, haunted him the rest of his life and he died when he was 67.
My dad and his brother were WW2 combat vets. My dad died at 64, haunted by whatever gremlins.
His brother died at 72 and the last 5 years of his life were a living hell.
I’m a non-combat vet who served 10 months in RVN. I’ve lived to a longer age than my dad.

Who I am now is not who I was back then.
To a lesser or greater extent, same with Gore, same with Mueller.
I have different opinions about no-name and Kerry and even different opinions about Blumenthal and Harkin.

My dismay is that in spite of my best efforts in relationships, too many crashed & burned.

Earlier--was too intense--probably tried for too much--particularly in some contexts.

Last 10-20 years--much less intense but that's probably not saying much. Results seem to be the same. Sigh.

Still, thousands of classmates & others know they have been genuinely loved & cared for to the limits of my capacities.

Since that's how I defined 'success' early on, I guess I don't have complaints or regrets on that score.

And, reportedly, casting bread upon the waters carries an eternal reward. I think I can wrap my faith around that.

CBS fact checked it a little over a week ago when POTUS also gave that statistic and came up with 60 to 80% from an amnesty international estimate.

President was wrong but only because his number were supposedly on the low side.
CBS deleted that tweet as it didn’t fit the narrative
