I looked my name up in google and this website "mylife.com" came up.

It had my full name, my myspace link, my age, and a list of all the cities I've lived in. Even a picture of me. But I NEVER joined this website.

“various legal traditions”

“Various legal traditions” also restrict freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, the free exercise of religion and the rights of conscience, etc. The only “legal tradition” that is really worth a damn in this world anymore is the American one, and even that is skating on thin ice.

It’s a post privacy world. A lot of this stuff is public information. Cullable from the phone company, utilities, and all kinds of other places.

My wife had a two-day conniption about MyLife. Not only do they use “publicly available” data, they use OUTDATED data.

Her profile said that she had two visits to her profile. Both were before 2015. They also said she had a CRIMINAL RECORD in bright red. Turns out it was a traffic ticket that she got a number of years ago that was paid and cleared via Traffic School. Of course, these a$$hats never bothered to do a follow-up check on her “record”.

And, just to make it even MORE egregious, you have to buy your reputation report from them for $40 just to look at the details and dispute them.

Fortunately, if you look at the scoring of MyLife versus other background check services, they are near the bottom. Best described as the “National Enquirer” of background check sites.

My suggestion to you, sodpoodle, would be to just ignore them for now. I don’t think any reputable company uses these clowns for background checking. At least that’s been our experience, as we’ve never encountered any questions regarding the crap here.

What’s unusual about that? You’ve given your info to many
companies, entities, etc. over your life time. We all have.

I am not a member of Mylife, so I have never given them any information. The information disclosed to banks, physicians, employers, contractors etc., is expected to be treated/protected as confidential.

This Mylife company has somehow amassed information and made it available to everyone by just googling your name, angry neighbors etc., who have no legitimate need for it. It is an outrage.

I was not born in a cave on a deserted island, and I don’t plan on living there soon. “Like the pine trees lining a winding road . . . .”

I just went to the site and checked out reports on a couple of friends in addition to myself. One friend has been deceased for nearly 5 years and the site shows a current report for him; the second friend, who has credit issues as a result of a nasty divorce, shows as more reputable than me (and I have excellent credit). They want $1.00 to view these reports for 7 days, which sounded suspicious, so I went to http://www.ripoffreport.com ... glad I never gave them my credit card number. Sounds like much more trouble than it’s worth.
