Eli Grba, the first player to throw a pitch for the Angels, died Monday night in Florence, Ala., after a three-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 84.
Grba, a bespectacled pitcher with a penchant for partying and a competitive spirit, was known as the Original Angel. With the opening selection of MLBs first expansion draft in December 1960, Angels general manager Fred Haney made Grba the first addition to the Angels inaugural roster.
Im a trivia question until I die, Grba said in a 2011 television interview. Im the first guy thats ever been drafted and the first Angel. You know, thats kind of nice.

I thought “Jaclyn” Smith was the first Angel
I thought it was Jim Fregosi
Yeah, she IS the OA.
For the record, Roma is no where near 84. She is 58.
Apparently, released a book last year.
Most people around here are Angels fans. At a talent show at our church, a man led the audience in singing, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” When we got to the line, “Root, root root for the...,” I shouted out “Dodgers!” while most of the others yelled, “Angels!” The church is about five miles from Anaheim Stadium.
I remember seeing an Angels game at L.A.’s Wrigley Field. Caught a few games at ‘Chavez Ravine’ (They absolutely refused to call it Dodger Stadium). May have seen one game in Anaheim. I always felt that they really couldn’t overcome being in the shadow of the Dodgers.
May the Lord bless you and grant you increase! The Angels are always the "California Angels", not the LA Angels. There is only ONE LA team!!! Go Dodgers!!!
They drafted him from the Yankees. He wasn’t a bad pitcher.
Now, let me tell you about a swinging scene,Dodger Stadium--Maury Wills, Willie Davis & Stubby Kaye (1964)
Though Pisa has a tower that can lean,
No matter where you've been or what you've seen,
There is a place you've got to dig, I mean:
Dodger Stadium! Dodger Stadium!Where do the movie people congregate?
Where does the traffic never make you late?
Where did the Yankees come and lose four straight?
If you don't know, I will elaborate:
Dodger Stadium! Dodger Stadium!
