I have a branch office overlooking this bridge (wasn't there today). But that old bridge was on borrowed time. I never saw a new bridge go up as fast as this one did. I get the feeling that the state was desperately staving off a mass disaster.

The old Tappan Zee was the only bridge I felt a little nervous driving across because it was well past the recommended lifetime and it could have truly failed at any time.

That said, the new bridge is pretty nice.
