Many apartments have restrictions on renters having pets. But what happens when the renters are the pets?
A California man is renting his Silicon Valley studio apartment to a pair of cats for $1,500 a month, The Mercury News reported. The apartment lacks a kitchen, but cats are not known for their culinary skills, so it all works out.
Basically Ive got two renters that dont have opposable thumbs, David Callisch told the newspaper. Its actually great. Theyre very quiet, obviously. The only problem is they stink up the place.
The rent for the cats, named Tina and Louise, is paid by Troy Good, 43, who is footing the bill while his daughter, 18-year-old Victoria Amith, attends college at Azuza Pacific University, the News reported. Amith could not take the cats to the university, since the dorms do not allow pets.

Doesn't that make it a bachelor apartment, instead of a studio? At least, that's what we called it back in the Stone Age. Maybe now such a place would be called Single Room Occupancy. (Although I assume it has a bathroom.)
And Azuza Pacific College is by LA?
Looks like the dad didn't want to lose his lease on the cat apartment.
While Azuza would love to have that $18,000 a year for the cat apartment I guess that they will settle for the $50,000 in tuition.
Seriously, for another $18,000 I'll bet that they would furnish the cats a place to play.
“The only problem is they stink up the place.
Wish the guy luck in eliminating that odor.
Ha, I thought it was just me.
For that money he could’ve found a cat-sitter to take them in.
Maine Coons and Minxes have attitudes. I would have thought something like Thelma and Louise would be the names. Must be a Generational thing with the names Tina and Louise. LOL
And as long as it’s their own funds paying the $1,500 monthly, there is no problem. They work/worked for the monies and they should have the right to spend it as they wish.
I’m of the opinion that with the printing of the article, one of their concerns should be making sure squatters don’t move into the apartment overnight!
Concur.
Good point. Definitely a first-world problem.
All very fascinating, buy why in the world would the cats “stink up the place?” Doesn’t anyone bother changing the cat box litter? They need two boxes, just change them out every day. Litter is cheap. If you clean boxes daily, it’s easy to just rinse them out, refill.
