I agree with you. Intelligent adult would not hit any kid under 18. Even if one is attacked first, it is better to get away from the situation because jury is more likely to sympathize with the kid. When some driver cuts me off (happens frequently because I drive a small car) I restrain my road rage, and do not pull out the gun from the glove compartment.
