Since 2014, Harley-Davidson has been working on developing its first electric motorcycle; at the Consumer Electronics Show on Monday, the company announced that the 2020 LiveWire model is finally available for pre-order before its official August launch.

"Sales are broke and have been for awhile."
What makes them think that electric bikes will be the answer to their sales problems?

Concur with you 100% that the distracted driving problem is crazier than ever.
Another concern to motorcycling enthusiasts is the ongoing degradation of American roads.

Well, get her out and get her done. Ain’t doing nothing in storage but gettin’ older. Took a month to do a frame-up restoration on that KZ, but it looked showroom new when it was done. This smartass pal of the boss got in my face and said “You’re never gonna get that back together!” He ate crow a month later. I didn’t rub it in—but I wanted to. I let the results speak for themselves...

"New generation of buyers"
Didn't Harley-Davidson say they were moving some of their production overseas? I wonder how that will relate to their sales.

My thought exactly. No soundtrack, no Harley.
Now they can mow people down, and no one will hear it coming.

When folks are shoveling their driveways and waiting for the snowplow to come by, I ride this to the corner store.

Motorcyclists never wish to be in any kind of impact / collision while riding.

This old one is good for 10-12 miles at up to 20Mph, and handles a 36 degree incline. The new ones have twice the battery capacity.
So it's good for a short trip, a run through the local hills, or into a bush destination and back, but it's only going to run flat out with both motors for half an hour or so. Then you'll need a spare battery or a 3-6 hour recharge depending on your charger.
(Or you could leave it in the sun for a week or two to recharge on the 15 watt trickle charging solar battery charger... ;-)

YouTube videos make that electric motorbike look like a great way to zip around the neighborhood or visit trails. Very cool.

Loud pipes piss people off. Makes me want to hit them. Well you've done it now. If you ever do hit motorcycle rider they'll bring up your comment to prove you really intended to run someone over. That's on top of being legally responsible for all damages/medical etc. Better be careful. Motorcycle injuries can be be severe and they get big $ settlements. They'll go after everything.☺

The video ad says they want 6,500 or suggested price. I'm sure it's fun around the back 40 and no gas is a plus if you ride it 50 miles a day.☺ I personally go for value, or how useful something is. I've become interested in later model dual-sport four stroke bikes, They go anywhere, street or off road, like expeditions around the planet, many now have electric starts, no kick, over 11.5"+ on the engine/frame clearance, and way superior suspension...And some will get 72 or so miles per gallon at around 200 miles on a tank etc and will do freeway+ speeds.
And the best part is they can be purchased for significantly less money than the electric mini bike in the video.
I'm just talking bang for the buck here.

Two hundred miles is not “several.” Three hundred or more would be several, but that’s a 4.5 hour range, and I don’t remember getting that far.

"Like having an electric Rokon?"
Very much like that, except with a very small gas tank, that has to be slowly filled with a tiny syringe... ;-)
BUT, it's technically an electric bicycle, so it's legal in places where gas vehicles are not!
