Today’s puzzle has some interesting clues. The first 3 letter word is repeated, and we also see these first 3 letters in a 4 letter word.
You have to two 2 letter words in succession which should give you a clue that the first letter of each is an “i”.
Most likely... But “at an impasse” would present the same circumstance.
