Was "2036 Origin Unknown" the WORST Sci-Fi Movie of 2018?

I saw "2036 Origin Unknown" on Netflix last night. Big mistake! It was easily the WORST Sci-Fi movie of 2018. In fact, it might just be the WORST movie of any genre of the year.

Boring as hell with confusing dialogue and cheap sets. In fact, it basically took place in one dark depressing room. On top of that it had elements that were a flat out RIPOFF of "2001: A Space Odyssey." Yeah, it had a black monolith on Mars. Gee, where have we seen that before? And they also had a HAL ripoff to the extent of their AI also spying on the speech patterns of two humans.

I kept expecting the movie to go somewhere but it never did.

Katie Sackoff? She should be banished because of her name. What guy in his right mind would date a girl with that name? “Hi, how are you? Fine thank you, I am John. Nice to meet you, I am Katie Sackoff. Excuse me? I am sorry, But I have to run.....” :)

It was not a ten, but it wasn’t a 2. The whole thing was a simulation.

So you’re saying you saw the movie, and it killed the brain cells that would have been used to store the memory of the movie?

The worst one I have ever seen, at least that they spent money on making was “Andromeda Strain”.

The original or remake? Or both?

Well, someone liked it.

And with steady VFX, solid sound work from the audio department, a techno setting that is both suffocating and inviting, and a terrific lead performance from Katee Sackhoff, 2036 Origin Unknown is definitely one of the better low-budget sci-fi movies to be produced in recent years, and a standard setter for future made-for-television projects to come.

Sounds like good fodder for the MST3K folks.

If it ever makes it to DVD, it will be in the bargain bin with Faces of Death.

Never heard of it.

A small drama or comedy that you never heard of might be okay, but a SF movie that comes out of left field is more likely to be junk than not.

It sounds like it was worse than Annihilation, which seemed pretty pointless to me, in spite of a few big names in it. A rip-off of Tarkovsky.

Plan 9 from outer space

As no other movie has ever done, Plan 9 touched me with the deep and sincere realization that I had just wasted 75 minutes of my life that I would never get back. Time that I could have used doing something useful like picking my nose or watching paint dry.

It was good, much better than the original 80s scifi movie was. Saw both. Series is a lot better. Though i can do without homo love storylines.

Go try to find Columbia Pictures' Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone.

It was meant to be serious, but at one point where the spacecraft is flying along the surface of the alien planet, you can see some parking lot with stripes in the corner of the screen...
