George C. Scott played Scrooge just like he played Patton.

Yep. I also like the few mistakes in the original film like when Ebeneezer goes home after being in the pub eating then goes home and gets comfy with another bowl of something; the other one was the mom early in the film was seen carrying a plucked goose home in her basket then is amazed over the goose Scrooge sends them one later for Christmas dinner.

Scrooge is about to eat a bowl of gruel. A kind of porridge. As far as the goose I assumed it was because Scrooge had sent it and that were amazed he would do so. Merry Christmas Sky Dancer.

Scrooge just finished a bowl of whatever in that pub then went home, got into his comfy whatever and sat down with another bowl as if it were the only one he had. In the beginning of the movie you see the mother walking with Tiny Tim and she already has a goose in her bag. Then they receive another one from Scrooge and the family is all giddy about it as if they were going to do without.

That 1970 "Scrooge" that you linked was the first Christmas Carol movie I ever saw. Our teacher took us to see it on a field trip. I was in third grade at the time. Made quite an impression on me as I had not read the actual Dickens yet and this was my first exposure to the story.

Anyway, thanks for the link, it brought back some fond memories of more innocent times.

Lastly, it's a shame that no public school today would ever allow a teacher to take students on a field trip to see such a movie today, being it's about Christmas and all. We are not the same country today we were back then.

Could have been a beef stew he had in the pub? Hence the ‘’More bread’’ line?

Hmm, dunno, but eating again so soon? Seems redundant or something... anyway, seemed odd.

Great comment! I think what’s happened to us is what Voegelin meant by “deculturation.” I remember watching this movie with my folks and recall it was sponsored by IBM. It’s easily my favorite of the versions I’ve seen.

“Apparently you've never seen Exorcist III.”

Are you kidding me? Exorcist III was his finest work!
