The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.
From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed any time-and don't have to be about gardening.
Lemon tree is smelling so good from all the blooms. Picked the last of the tomatoes. Hope to get some more blooms soon.
Merry Christmas. Prayers up for all. God Bless.
Pinging the List.
NICE PIC. MERRY CHRISTMAS.
Planted cabbage and radishes in the green house but it might be too cold. I have tried replacing the tape around the joints of the plastic panels with silicon. it is working better but if the heater takes too much juice i will have to shut it down for the winter. Bought seeds for starting in the garage. not sure how that will work. In years past i had a 1000 watt light in the basement.
Hi Everybody!
((((HUGS))))
Merry Christmas from the Frozen North Country!
Wish I could do a picture. I grow Hydroponics in North San Diego and the lettuce is on fire!!!! 40 degrees this morning
I have that same problem in my green house - I don’t like to run the heaters too much. I have used heavy duty plastic to cut down on the size of the area heated.
I have as many pots as possible on a table with a crockpot on it. The handle on the lid broke many years ago, so it lets a little steam out which helps with the humidity as well as heat.
I expect when Jan and Feb weather gets here, that I’ll have to bring in the larger pots that are close to the floor, and maybe have to put an additional plastic tent over the table with the crockpot.
I have 3 black gallon containers that I will be setting up at the back of the table to help. Problem is that we have had less sunshine than usual.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU TOO.
40 in San Diego? YIKES!
Merry Christmas to everyone.
Right back at you.
39 tonight in SW Florida.
I use the Jiffy Greenhouse with 72 pods. Very successful.
When they get bigger, use Miracle Grow potting soil in 4"x4"x4" plastic containers with holes in the bottom - Dollar tree. I can use them again and simply put them in the dishwasher. They're clear so I can see the roots.
I'm also an epsom salt girl. I watered them continuously until transplanted with Gallon of water and Tblsp of epsom salts. They were magnificent.
Make sure you harden off your plants before transplanting into your garden.
Be patient.
We haven’t even made up our list of seeds yet. Hubby has converted totally to heirlooms and Bakers Creek.
Not sure when we will start seeds in 2019.
I’m still amusing myself with my Baker Creek catalog. They have what looks like rose-scented mint and I pounced on it the second I saw it. Flavored mint makes AMAZING lemonades, and I’ve been trying to brew rose lemonade for a couple of years now.
Just weeding and prepping other than that. I found golden beets at the grocery store and took a few home to experiment with and see if I want to grow some.
The Baker Seed catalog arrived in today’s mail.
The Baker Catalog is something I look forward to seeing around this time of year.
Park Seeds and Ohio Seeds.
