Telescreen = Portal and Echo
I won’t have those, and I won’t have a television with a built in camera, and I have a cloth hood for my PC camera. Bad actors have used all of these.
You DO know, that they are ALWAYS listening, right? MONITORING you.
If you’ve have a dumb phone or a cable satellite box since about 1995 you’ve already had these devices in your home.
I think there’s an Alexa in a box around here somewhere that our son got my wife 2 Christmases ago. It’s staying in the box.
Electronic tethers. You’re not under house arrest. Yet.
Yup, that's what we all need.
Citizen—you have nothing to fear unless you speak unauthorized speech or think unauthorized thoughts.
If you are not sure what they are—just turn on CNN and they will give you the appropriate thoughts for the new day.
Remember—check every day—yesterday’s approved speech could be tomorrow’s hate speech.
:-(
Why would anyone buy/drive a car that spies on you?
...and yet...(we do).
I have two Alexa devices and am not particularly worried about security. The NSA has been monitoring my emails, my cell phone follows my every move, my ISP knows every website I visit and I am sure other government agencies have accessed my medical records. Alexa is pretty bored with conversations in my home consisting of mainly what do we want for dinner and my rants at the lies and propaganda I see on TV news. I am certain a totalitarian police state would already have no problem in finding reasons to haul me off to a concentration camp.
Just on a lark, a few minutes ago I asked Alexa “Who is Jeff Beelzebub?” Want to guess what Alexa told me?
Give it a try. Just wondering if you get the same response?
I just asked Alexa how the spy business was going.
She spoke like a weasel and invoked the 5th Amendment.
“They’re always listening and sending what they hear”
I don’t have one and don’t intend to get one, but anything with a microphone that’s connected to the net can listen.
For the alexas and other little things, put the device on a metal base and put a tin can or something over it when not in use. Radio waves won’t get through that.
We have an Alexa as well—and I agree that the privacy horse has long since left the barn—Alexa is a footnote at this point.
If she won’t let us unplug the machine without getting electrocuted then I would start to get worried... :-)
(Sorry, Hal, I can’t do that....)
That’s nothing...my hub and I purchased a piece of locally done “art”...painting done with resin..never did an online search either. We discussed the method, etc with artist for several minutes. Paid by check. Next thing I know I look at Pinterest and “resin art” shows up...Something similar happened last week after long conversation with my best friend. I now talk loudly to my phone saying “google, fb, twitter, Pinterest sucks”
I have extra cloth hoods put aside for the heads of the FAAGTs.
I looked up car insurance rates at the AAA website.
In 1 day I got 5 voice mails and 7 emails from them. All different people. I had several the day of me looking at the website.
I will NOT buy from AAA.
