Chivalry might be dead, but many women still welcome it when a man holds a door or picks up the check. While more than 77% of people in one survey thought a man should pay for a first date, women may see the gesture as a patronizing deal-breaker, especially as society wrestles more than ever with the power dynamic between the sexes.
But now there’s evidence that women — even committed feminists — interpret paying for dinner and holding doors as signs that a man is husband material. Interestingly, these women are fully aware that a man who engages in this “benevolent sexism” could also be the type of guy who undermines women and tries to control them, a recent study published in the journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found.

Rage at the patrimony has its limits
During the Summers of the mid to late 60s, I worked at a Summer Retreat which employed over 400 College Summer Staff and around a hundred full time.
One day at Supper, Mom Weeks, the wife of the manager told the girls that they were making the same as the boys and they should pick up the tab on some dates.
It did no good. It was so ingrained in the girls that the boy pays that they ignored her advice.
I have been married forever. Haven’t picked up the check in years.

There are certain people who's opinion you should consider. You should be ready to tell the rest of the world to go take a flying leap. Then you should be ready to take the results of your actions without whining about it.

Apart from everything else, if you invite someone to dinner and pick the restaurant yourself it is only fair that you pay. The women probably wasn’t going to spend that much on her meal otherwise.

The woman often expends considerable resources enhancing beauty and “feminine wiles” for a date, the guy usually only has to show up and not be an asshole. Paying for the date balances The expenditures.
They still date? I thought they spent all day walking around malls looking at smart phones.
