On their way to a Chrismas party over the weekend, Glenn Beck and his wife made a stop at a local Walmart and decided to pay off all of the layaways to the tune of $27,000.

TheBlaze founder said he and his family had been inspired by Tyler Perry, who recently paid off all of the layaways at two Atlanta-area Walmarts, totaling more than $400,000.

The Dallas Morning News reported Beck and his wife stopped at the Dallas-area North Richland Hills Walmart on their way to a Christmas party but ended up staying several hours at the store as employees helped Beck pay off each account.

A Walmart spokesman said Beck paid a total of around $27,000 to close all of the accounts. Beck said on this radio program on Monday that the layaways had balances ranging from $24 to $500.

Members of the Beck family also took turns live-streaming updates on Beck's Facebook page.

In one video, a Walmart employee was talking to a customer on their iPhone.

"I'm serious, somebody paid it," the employee told the customer who could be heard crying on the phone.

This year. Wonder what people will put on layaway next year, in hopes that Santa Beck will cover it. And leave there, if he doesn’t.

This is the 3rd time I’ve read of this. I’m betting the layaway departments are jammed to the rafters in the next couple of weeks - and next Christmas too.

My wife does this every year. She goes to middle schools in our district and pays off every kids cafeteria tab. She doesn’t do it for anything other than helping the families of these kids.

So the people who were responsible and bought things a while ago and systematically paid off the balance were screwed. Those who bought $500 of goods they couldn’t afford were rewarded.

He got the idea by reading about Tyler Perry’s extraordinary effort in ATL. He paid of $450,000 at multiple Walmarts

I don’t know that those who paid their balances were “screwed” but those who benefited from these acts of generosity certainly did nothing to earn it.

He wasn’t, at first. he wanted to be anonymous, but the Wal Mart people kept identifying him, so he started livestreaming. He knew the left-wing media wouldn’t believe it otherwise.

One of our resident wits was disappointed that he had failed to put an expensive gun on layaway. But he’ll be ready next year.

When you really think about it, Beck was not helping “people in need,” but profligate spenders that cannot control their spending. They may or may not have needed this stuff on layaway. People in need are walking the streets, looking for food and a place to sleep, and refuse any help. How do you help them?

I hope Walmart didn’t take a check from him for the payments!

Mark Davis at 660am has a slight problem with how anyone, including Glenn Beck, spends his money.

Mark Davis is free to give to more needy people with his own money.

IOW:

“Look at me! I did a good deed! Ain’t I great?!?”

I’ve read similar stories of other people doing the same, and never seeking publicity and preferring to remain “unknown” Those people did it out of the kindness of their hearts, not for publicity or for self-aggrandizing or self-adulation.

My brother went into a restaurant with his family which included 4 well behaved kids. Some older fella was so impressed he paid their tab and left.
