The Largest Earthquake In 45 Years Hits Tennessee – Is The “Deep Underground Scar”...
End Of The American Dream ^ | 12-15-2018 | Michael Snyder

Posted on 12/15/2018 10:03:41 AM PST by blam

Large earthquakes aren’t supposed to happen in Tennessee. On Wednesday, the largest earthquake in 45 years hit eastern Tennessee, and it made headlines all over the nation. The magnitude 4.4 quake was so powerful that it was felt in portions of Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Kentucky. Significant shaking was even felt as far away as Atlanta, and that was highly unusual. The original earthquake was rapidly followed by a magnitude 3.0 aftershock, and subsequently there were several other noteworthy aftershocks.
We live at a time when earthquakes are increasing in size and frequency, and many are concerned about what this may mean for our future. The recent earthquakes in Alaska were a shock, but at least they made sense since much of the coastline of Alaska sits directly along the Ring of Fire. But eastern Tennessee is not an area that has traditionally been prone to quakes. Could it be possible that the “seismic scar” that was created when the North American continent was formed is beginning to reawaken?

Prior to Wednesday, the last time that eastern Tennessee had experienced an earthquake of this magnitude or greater was on November 30th, 1973.

That was 45 years ago, and many of you that will be reading this article were not even alive at that time.

Some experts had regarded eastern Tennessee as one of the “safest” areas in the eastern half of the country, but after what we just witnessed they may want to reevaluate things. When the earthquake happened, the shaking was so violent that it actually woke people from their sleep all the way over in neighboring North Carolina…

This is alarmist garbage. But when the New Madrid fault goes it’s gonna be epic.

The magnitude 4.4 quake was so powerful that it was felt in portions of Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Kentucky.

If you looked at the map, it was right close to the borders of all those states. The article makes it sound like it was a huge deal. It was not. My daughter in Knoxville did not know about it until she heard it in the news.

How is it alarmist? If where this quake hit is part of the New Madrid fault, it’s not good.

We have always had occasional small tremors but this one was big, for us. I read somewhere that they had upgraded it to a 5.5. I thought it was that type of thunder that rolls in waves at first but both my little house dogs jumped out of bed and started running and barking. The outside dogs were barking too. They don’t bark at thunder. From the map of where it hit the epicenter was close to us. I’m in Athens TN.

Several years ago we had one that was bad enough that it sent me and my work office chair bouncing across the room.

I’ll have to check the calendar, but I believe it is the turn of “blame it on the racist, Zionist occupation of Palestine”. Frakking is next month.

My nephew in Atlanta felt it. He says he has felt three earthquakes since moving to Georgia in the 1980s.

If it was eastern Tennessee, it was probably too far east to have been New Madrid.

The New Madrid fault is the set of concentric ovals centered around the Miss River (see below).

However, there also has been some seimic activity further east as well.

I live in S Illinois and we had one 6 or 7 years ago that was 4.1 (New Madrid.) Middle of the night and scared the crap outta us. Shook the heck out of the house.

Next morning I added an earthquake rider onto my homeowners.

We’re in Metro Atlanta and didn’t feel anything...Came from CA so we know what they feel like!!

Maybe it happened because I keep saying, “give me an earthquake any day” when we go through the constant tornado and hurricane warnings and watches. I’ve never stayed awake at night waiting for an earthquake to hit!

“”If where this quake hit is part of the New Madrid fault, it’s not good.””

I wondered when I heard about it if it was part of that fault. Don’t think that would be fun regardless of our CA experiences with earthquakes.

What time did it hit?

Clever - we all need calendars like that. All events are bound to be there...don’t want anyone offended if their particular one is left out...

Oh! My gosh - I sure hope Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t see that map. She will want to know what capitalists moved Alaska over to the east coast of the U. S.
