He wanted to emulate Flick who succumbs to a dare and sticks his tongue to a frozen pole in A Christmas Story. When the character tries to pull away, he quickly discovers his tongue is stuck.
Spencer Cline, of Sandwich, Illinois, and his friend Cole thought it was just movie magic, but they learned just how real that old pitfall is, the Aurora Beacon-News reports.
I was just tempted to, he told the Beacon-News. Ive seen the movie A Christmas Story, which kind of inspired me.
When Spencer stuck out his tongue last Tuesday, it instantly adhered to the pole.

More impressive if NO ONE else is around BUT one may want a witness, just for effect.....
>>Heat it with a torch? LOL All you need to do is pour some water on it and the tongue come right off. LOL<<
It was my grandmother so maybe some drama added?
At that age I had been born and raised in Southern California and had never seen snow much less temperatures below 55 degrees.
All of us (my siblings) could not even imagine such a thing.
“Back in the olden days of metal ice trays we often had this happen to us kids”
so it just OFTEN happened all by itself? interesting. i guess our metal ice trays were better behaved ...
“Scott Schwartz, the actor who played Flick, apparently spends a lot of time talking about the famous scene. Hes often asked for a comment when kids are really dumb enough to try the stunt. The problem the kids have is that theres no real life prop department making sure that you dont actually get stuck. To be fair, Schwartz did get his tongue attached to the flagpole, just not as permanently as it appeared.
“They made a piece of plastic that they slid over [the flagpole]. It had a little hole in it with a suction tube that went into the snow you couldnt see it, it was a little motor, like a small vacuum cleaner, [and] the hole-opening [in the plastic] was about the size of your pinky nail. So when you put your tongue there or finger or whatever, it just stuck.”
The suction was enough to give the impression of an attachment, but apparently minor enough that Schwartz accidently pulled too hard and his tongue easily became free of the pole. https://www.cinemablend.com/new/How-Christmas-Story-Actually-Filmed-Infamous-Tongue-Scene-101537.html
