RIP, Captain Parmenter. Hopefully, you and “Wrangler Jane” can be reunited on the other side.

Agarn: “How did the Hekawis get their name?”

Wild Eagle: “Glad you asked. Many moons ago, tribe leave Massachussetts because Pilgrims ruin neighborhood. Tribe travel west, over stream, over river, over mountain, over mountain, over river, over stream. Then come big day. Tribe fall over cliff. That when Hekawi get name. Medicine man say to my ancestor, ‘I think we lost. Where the heck are we?’”

Spock was his sergeant when he was in the army, and encouraged him to do comedic acting. How paths cross.

The first season of F Troop (black and white) was a brilliant example of Borscht Belt slapstick and burlesque, heavy on the Yiddish humor.

Then it got hit with a double whammy. First was that everybody loved the idea of a romantic relationship between Ken “Captain Parmenter” Barry and exceptionally beautiful Melody “Wrangler Jane” Patterson, except she had just turned 16.

The second was that political correctness reared its ugly, misshapen and evil head, that depicting Indians in any way was offensive. And, as you might expect, it didn’t matter what actual Native Americans, many of whom loved the show, thought. The Nasty Nellies were still going to be offended on their behalf.

So, the second and last season (color) of the show was softened so much that it died.
